SS ram air

In case you have been living under a rock: the SS ram air isn't sealed.
Would sealing it give any hp gains? Has anyone done this?

doubtful since you can make more powering running the fast toys ram air and actually blocking the hood section off.

The only advantage ts doing that is it would block off the hot air from the engine compartment. The SS intake curves to much and the car doesn't travel fast enough for the airstream to be effective.

Are you sure about that? Everyone just assumes because the hood curves, that it is not effective. It's not as effective as a direct Ram Air, but that doesn't mean it is ineffective. Unless your an expert in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, etc, it's very hard to make predictions without testing first.

I'd like to see if SLP did any actual flow testing with their hoods.

the hood is made by GM

ummm slp designed the hood and spoiler not gm.

Experts have looked at it. Again, it's the speeds involved, as well as the 'boundary layer' effect - to be effective the scoop opening must be located higher, out of the slower moving air that travels close to the bodywork.

Just accept the SS hood for it's good looks and the fact that it isn't completely 'fake' like that on a mustang GT.

SLP probably had a hand in designing it. The company listed in the GM's part database is "SS Outfitters". That name could apply to any company that builds the hoods to GM's specs.

Yep....SS Outfitters shows up on both the hood and rear deck spoiler. Not sure who actually fabricated them, but they both carry a GM part number. I don't think you can buy either part thru SLP.

Correct me if I'am wrong please.

So how about the WS6 hood? Would I be better off to seal it off and run the FRA or FTRA ? (and yes, I removed the rear baffle from my hood)

I have the Suncoast SS Hood with the Ram Air that is seal off with a K & N Filter. Before I had the whisper lis with Holy Power Shot Filter. All though I don't think I gained very much I deffinately didn't loose either. I beleive the only thing you get is the novelty of saying you have ram air. The main reason I switched to the SS Hood was the looks. Why have a hood scoop if it's not functional. If you have a SS all ready I wouldn't worry about sealing it. It might have helped a little but not enough to go to very much trouble.

wether it is alot of air or alittle any more air then normal is good in my oppinion.
