Open up the drivers door and look at the RPO codes. If it came from the factory with the SS package it should have WU8.

WU8 - SS Performance Package/Appearance Package - Camaro

you can call SLP and have them run the VIN in their data base and they can tell you. carfax won't tell you anything except that it is a Z28. I used to have the number for SLP as it is not the same one for buying performance parts but you can call that number and get the number you need to call from them

SLP has a forum for posting the VIN# to get the build number. I can't find the link though.

Go to a GM dealer and have them run the VIN ..... that way you can tell (by printable RPO codes & meanings) also if the car has been taken in at any GM dealer for work.

Do what I did, go to slponline.com, you'll see a phone number there, either give them a call or send them an e-mail asking them to check, they'll need your VIN number, that's about it.

Just go to SLP's website and get the number. I had it but I lost it. It takes about 2 mintues, tell them the Vin and they'll tell you if it's a real SS or not. If you think it is, it most likely is.

IIRC a Y21 in the VIN designates it as an SS.

My 2000 Z28 has "Y21" in the VIN. If I remember my VIN codes, the "Y" designates the year.

the vin doesn not identify whether or not it is an SS
Vin goes as follows
1st digit - Nation of Origin
2nd - manufacturer
3rd- Make and type
4th- Restraint System (Engine type for AMC)
5th- Carline Series
6th& 7th - Body Types
8th Engine Type
9th Check Digit
10th- model year
11 assembly plant
12-17th - plant sequence number

Your car is a fully loaded Camaro SS. Bright Red with a very dark gray interior and a black top. A4 tranny, 3.23 gears. The key RPO codes are:
N73...17" wheels, restricted to Camaro SS
QFK...275/40R17 BW tires
V12...power steering cooler
WU8..sales pkg, Z28 SS
It's a genuine SS.
