SS exhaust vs. Z28 exhaust

Is the stock SS exhaust much louder than the stock Z28 exhaust? I just recently had flowmasters put on my car, and I guess I'm getting old or something because they are really too loud. Plus, I feel like I didn't get any power increase. Now I'm missing my old stock exhaust. I was thinking the exhaust off of an SS would get me more power (I'll never be too old for that) yet still be as quiet as the stock Z28 exhaust. What do you think?

JUST GET AN ELECTRIC CUTOUT THEN WHEN YOU NEED THE POWER YOU CAN OPEN IT AT THE FLICK OF A SWITCH BUT YOU CAN KEEP IT CLOSED FOR EVERYDAY DRIVING....JUST MY .02

What's the difference between the two?

I know for a fact that the Z28 muffler is huge as hell, im going to replace it with a pipe.

F-body flowmasters don't really Flow that well. so your gain was probably minimal.

been reading about the electric cut outs rattling and leaking.

Get a cutout but don't get an electtric one. Just go with a standard cutout. The electric powered ones can stick and in the end stop working.

The FlowMaster exhaust is the most restrictive catback system available for these cars.

An SS exhaust will give a performance boost over the stock bus-muffler and they can be picked up for very little money. I like their sound, just not loud enough for me. They cant be too loud since they still have to comply with fleet noise levels.

The SLP dual/dual system is really quiet and the Hooker system is just a tad bit louder, both with very little interior resonance. Both are signifigantly quieter than a flowmaster. You may want to look into those exhaust systems, both should be able to be found for less than $300.

One more thumbs up for the Hooker. That is going to be the one I will install on mine.

Nice low rumble at idle, low noise level at cruising speed but will be nice and loud at WOT. Not to mention that it is very reasonably priced, too!

Here is a vote for a Magnaflow muffler. I've had mine on for almost a year and it is great. Barely noticeable at idle, no interior resonance at cruising speeds, but it sounds great when you get on it.

I really like the sound of the SS stock exhaust. It's a little louder than the Z-28 but not much, but it has a better tone than the Z-28 or at least it does to me. I love a nice sounding exhaust, but don't like one that's real loud. Guess I'm getting old. As how much more power it makes, I don't know.

I have a flowmaster muffler on my exhaust took the stock muffler out bc it was to quiet. The flowmaster sound is alright very quiet at low rpms but when you get on it you can hear a roar. Still wish I would have got a whole cat back. But instead of buying a whole catback I bought a cutout and can be loud as hell whenever I want then quiet when I cap it up

If you want an aggressive sounding muffler at WOT, that flows great but is quiet all other times try a Spintech.

You can get a used SS mufler for pretty cheap. My dad is old and enjoys the sound of the SS when its being driven normal. But can be loud when racing or trying to sneak a girl out of a house in the middle of the night.
