Thanx officer avO-3voM for ur advice and for the valuable info ..

by the way I was not driving with this speed in Muscat ... I was racing in the high way between the borders of Oman and UAE .. where the police is away .. ( behind there *** ) ..

my car will still be under warranty if I removed this pesky speed limiter ... no warries

I normally don't go to that speed alot .... it is only when someone tries to **** me off ... with his silly ( trolley )

back to our topic ..

- why does the Z28 00 has a speed limiter when it is ment to be a sport car for speeding ... !?

- does the SS has a speed limiter too .... ?

.

geez i have the governor set at 108 and im not complaining nearly as much as you. What street on earth are you gonna go 162 mph on and let me know so i dont drive there. You wanna do it on strip. Okay as long as you can get your car up to 162 in a 1/4. If you are driving 162 in traffic you dont deserve your car cause your gonna wreck it.

Here is the formula for determining the amount of power (rwhp) required to go a certain speed: HP=(k)(A)(Cd)(V^3)

The Cd of an F-body is listed as .34.

So it would take 291 rwhp to go 160.
(0.0002091)(0.34)(160^3)=291

And it would take 381 rwhp to go 175.
(0.0002091)(0.34)(175^3)=381

With stock 3.42 gears, an M6 F-body would be turning 5300 in fifth at 160 mph. Stock my T/A dyno'd 310 rwhp from 5300-5600, so I think it is beleivable that they will go 162-164 mph stock. Today my T/A is making 375-380 rwhp from 5600-6500, and it has been lowered so the Cd might be better than .34, so I am confident that it would pull 175+ with a FTRA.
Just a little FYI. Yes the drag co-efficient is .34, but raising or lowering your car does not change this number. What it does change is the frontal area of the car, which is part of the formula to figure out hp versus speed. The frontal area of our cars in 21 sq/ft. When you lower in 1-2 inches this decreases by 1-2 sq/ft, which does make a huge differance. Just thought you'd like to know. BTW .34 is an excellent drag co-efficient. The 'Vette is slightly better at .33, the Viper is horrible at .41. The Mustang is not very good at (I think) .38
Also I ran the SSCC last year and my car is capable of 175 mph on 340 rwhp, though I did not go over 165 mph ( with an inch of pedal left). I do have the BG ram air mod though, which helps rwhp at high speedsSilverstateclassic.com

Has the whole world gone nuts or is it just me. A stock TA does not have 310 rwhp. The 310 rating you get is at the flywheel. The way to get rear wheel hp is multiply the rating the dealer gives you by .8. Thus 310 * .8= 248 rwhp. There is no way in hell a stock TA can run 310 rwhp. If it had that much power at the wheels it would be running high 11s stock.

Yes, the M6's DO have 310 rwhp stock. Dyno your car! Here is what my car did stock:

With some bolt ons:

those numbers are your rating. If you ask anybody these cars do not have that kind of power at the wheels. Did your car run high 11s stock.
Dont believe me check it out.
A TA weighs approx 3500
a 1/4 mile in about 13.7
plug the numbers in see what this gets you.

You're a funny guy. I'm surprised that you know so little about your own car. My f-body club twice yearly has dyno days ... you know ? As in a chassis dyno that measures rwhp ? And rwtq ? My '01 WS6 put down 314 rwhp and 332 rwtq bonestock and no it doesn't run 11's. Your information is wrong

Black01_Z - I understand you are new, so please ignore those that are about to pummill you

Seriously, on a Dynojet 248 chassis dyno, which measures RWHP, my T/A put down the numbers above. Those aren't someone elses car, or dyno sheets/info from a dealer, that is what my car put down while strapped to a chassis dyno (the engine was in the car). Click here to see it on the dyno.

Please, hang out and get to know us. There is more knowlege on this board than in every car mag ever printed (and they don't always print the truth, and advertising dollars do influence what gets printed).

And since you asked, my T/A did not run 11's stock or now, but it did run 12.97 @ 108.4 bone stock except for 17x9 Firehawk wheels and Nitto 555RII tires all around. Real times, not predictions on web pages.

I just checked out the hp calculator that Black01_Z linked to, and I punched in Trans Am, 3490 pounds (which is what my T/A weighed on the NHRA legal scales at Ennis) and 12.97. and this is what it output:
Your Trans Am weighs about 3490 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 12.97 seconds. That means that you've got about 316.15 HP at the wheels, and about 411.00 HP at the flywheel.

The rwhp is very close, but it is assuming 20% which is a lot of drivetrain loss. 15% is considered more normal, and LS1 F-bodies with a 6 speed lose more like 12-13%.

Yeah, T-tops dop't matter, it is the tires. I know I hit 155 MPH on I-64 late this friday nihgt (coming back from Dinwiddie Strip_ and mine was still climbing! I think it would make about 162 or so before redline. I have an A4 with 3:23 axle. Of course, I admit doing 155 in a 65 zone is near suicide if anthing happens, but I had to try it once! My 96 t-bird is limited at 105 (4.6 V-8)

Nurburgring is great, but, yes, accept the risks!!!!

The 162 limiter is actually pretty easy to hit on a pretty much stock F-body. With a good stretch and a downhill stretch, so is 180. I know from experience. You just have to have the ***** to try it.

But I do seam to get tickets all the time for stupid **** (they must know or somthing). In illinios if you get a good layer they keep piling on supervisions.... so my insurence never goes up. So going fast is definatly safe... id even argue it is safer than doing the limit.

umm no, before i used to have my F-Body I had (and still have) an L-99 Caprice. I'll tell you I used to do 80-110 whenever I saw a nice empty stretch. I used to think I was invincible too. I'll tell you one time (since you live in Chicago and so do I) I was going down Dee Road in Park Ridge, if your a speeder im sure youve driven there once or twice. I hit 110 in a 1/2 mile stretch in that car. Then when breaking I stopped all the way through the crosswalk. There must have been a skid mark at least 100 yards long from breaking. I almost hit a car goin through the intersection had i been a second slower to stop, i probably woulda hit him. Since that day I gave up going as fast as any car would take me. I got the F-Body to get the improved acceleration over the Caprice so I wouldnt have to go as fast for the same thrill.

i aparently have 400.02 hp at the flywheel. think ill start telling people that

its assuming a little over 24% loss on mine. ive played with this calculator before. its nice and all. but unless each and every single one of you are lieing about your hp and times...... im thinkin its a touch off .

Im not talking about engine damage im talking about an accident. I thought that was clear.
