Speed limiter!!

I was racing with a BMW 750i (V12), at began I smoked him
about 3 cars length then the speedometer reached its end limit
and rpm @ 5.000 I pressed accel paddle all the way down….after a while the engine haunting, it seems there is a Off / ON switch!! Or something like a fuel cutter … did this happen to any of you? or does anyone have an idea about it, cause I was really surprised and I thought that my Z28 ’00 have some failures.. Why GM put this …in a muscle car!!

Thanx for ur replies

ost likely because you didnt get a car with the Z-rated tires. You only have a tires thats rated to go about 120 SAFELY.

You have a 00 Z28? Or is it a v6er or what? And how fast were you going when it cut off?

in some cars they put a govenor you can most likely put a hi prefomance chip and it should override the govenor..... by the way how fast were you going whne it cut out? is it T-tops or Conv. those are most likely to have a gov. since it does not have a solid top

my 2001 Z28 does has a limiter set at 108. The reason is the tires. They are not rated to go over 112. If you check your tires you should find that they read P235/55/R16. If you have the speed tires you wouldnt have the governor and thus yours would read P245/50/ZR16. The Z is very important since that indicates that it is a speed rated tire that can go more than the max speed of the car. I dont know exactly what the top speed of the car is but, the tire is rated for 186 mph and the car cant do that for sure.

Even if you have the Z rated tires, LS1 F-bodies are limited t o162 mph. If you have a 150 speedometer, then you have the 162 limiter. If you have the slower speedo (can't remember the limit but it is close to 115) then you have the lower governor.

Wink

The governer/speed-limiter has nothing to do w/T-tops for sure...............just the tires. I've got T's, yet I've had my car up to ~260 km/h (~160mph) and the only thing stopping me from hitting the rev-limiter was my decision not to. My car does have the Z rated tires, and a speedo that reads to 250 km/h (155mph).

I'm actually surprised that the '00s still have a speed limiter. I thought that was only on the first few years of the LT1s, but I guess Chevy kept putting them on all the cars. I do know, though, that when I bought my '94 (new) way back then, that I specifically found a car equipped with the Eagle GS-Cs, which are Z rated. I knew that cars without these tires had a 108 mph speed limiter on them. It's kind of like buying a champion race horse and finding out it's been neutered. The option code for cars which came with the optional GS-Cs was "QLC." I'm not sure if they still use the same code, but they might. Look at your option code list, and if it does list "QLC," then the car does NOT have the speed limiter, which is a good thing, in my view. This was done to ensure people did not outdrive their non Z rated tires and kill themselves. I'm not sure if a programmer will remove the governer, but it's worth a shot.

actually.... it can. 180 is about the limit i would trust the cars aerodynamics but 186 is definitly not beyond the cars capabilities. im just not gutsy enough to try and definitly not with my car .

just about any governor setting is going to be based off the tire your running "from the factory". which can be removed with an hppIII. just make sure you have z rated tires before you go getting crazy .

No stock fbody will run 180. You would need more horespower, lower #d gears and some aerodynamics to keep you planted, what does the C5 top out at 169 or 172 somethin like that, lighter car better dynamics and suspension. Yeah the HPP3 will raise the limiter to where youll never hit it

what are you nuts? An f-body go 180. Most Ferraris top out at around 180-190. This is a fast car no doubt, but it cant run with Ferraris.

A stock F-body will not run 180, but a many heads/cam LS1 F-bodies will. Weight has nothing (very little anyway) to do with top speed, only affects the amount of time it takes to get there.

Here is the formula for determining the amount of power (rwhp) required to go a certain speed: HP=(k)(A)(Cd)(V^3)

The Cd of an F-body is listed as .34.

So it would take 291 rwhp to go 160.
(0.0002091)(0.34)(160^3)=291

And it would take 381 rwhp to go 175.
(0.0002091)(0.34)(175^3)=381

With stock 3.42 gears, an M6 F-body would be turning 5300 in fifth at 160 mph. Stock my T/A dyno'd 310 rwhp from 5300-5600, so I think it is beleivable that they will go 162-164 mph stock. Today my T/A is making 375-380 rwhp from 5600-6500, and it has been lowered so the Cd might be better than .34, so I am confident that it would pull 175+ with a FTRA.

Thanx for your replies

I wanna tell u that my tiers are Z rated and the specifications are; GS-C , P245/50 ZR 16

I would also like to mention that it is not convertible or T-top ... it is a hard top ...

when this happened the speed was to its max limit it was +155 mph

do u think that if I take it to the dealer will it able to insert a high performance chip that will override the gov or whatever its .. ?!

I appreciate more replies

I must be bored...

http://www.asiatravel.com/oman/travelinfo.html

Driving - Highways within Muscat and linking major towns make driving a pleasure in Oman. Vehicles are driven on the right side of the road, so left hand drives are used. The maximum speed limit on open road is 120 km per hour (75 MPH) . Seat belts are compulsory. Residents require a valid Omani license but visitors can use an International license. Residents of Britain may use their British license. You require insurance against accidents which an be arranged through local insurance companies, your travel agent or car hire firm. Always carry your documentation with you as all accidents have to be reported to the police.

120 km per hour (75 MPH) - you say your speedometer is "buried" at 155MPH when you experience this.

SLOW THE HEII DOWN! - 2 times the legal limit ++

I hope your car is still under warranty when you go ask the dealer to remove that pesky 162mph speed limiter..lol.

Order a HPP III off the classifieds here for 200 american or so, and you can move the speed limiter to 210mph (340 KM/h !!!!)
