Speed in gears
Hey guys,
Newbie here. Just bought a 2001 trans am Ws6 m6 bone stock and was wondering about it's performance. What do you think the top speeds per gear should be normal - I was messing around the other night and hit about 70 in 2nd - the car seems to have a good bit of power but seems a little sluggish- it is bone stock with 51 k on the odometer. I am new to Ls1's - between 3000- 6000 rpms the engine seems to really open up - this car is definetly different then any other car i have driven- at idle when i rev the engine it is a definetly a low end grunt- not high reving like for example mustangs- is this normal or is my car ragged out?

just put in the "98 fbody M6" on the drop down...and hit calculate. it will tell you what you will hit in every gear.

Re: Speed in gears
ls1's suck on low end. after spending 4k on h/c, full exhaust etc i only gained .1 i needed the gears to compliment everything else. so even tho i was making 420rwhp i got smoked by a stock ls1 m6. got the gears and ssra, that dropped me to 12.0 average with a best of 11.87@ 117
an a4, especially with 2.73's you can throw a brick on the gas pedal, get out, go eat luch, come back to get in the car in time before it starts waking up

Before:
This was with full bolt-ons.
After:
This was after a custom cam that's similar to the X2 cam, AFR 205's, and a FAST90/90..

TAILS- that may have been the case, just basing my observations onmy experience and few other owners who claim the lt1 has more lower end than the ls1. i always had the power with the h/c, it just didnt want to launch, but no its not matched to the tc, tc is still stock. with that in mind, people say you gain up to .5 with a decent stall, so running a low 11's car n/a with basically h/c would suit me fine but still want n20

Whenever you increase power on an NA motor without changing the displacement of the motor, the torque curve is going to change higher, as will the horsepower, since horsepower is a calculation of torque: e.g., there's a tradeoff.
