spark plugs?
spark plugs?
i have a 99 z28. how do i reach the spark plugs on the back of the passenger side engine? i have used different wobble extensions and u-joints. i cant even see or feel the plug. i broke some of it off when i pulled the wire. im lost? i havent driven it yet this year and its killing me!

From what I've gathered the easiest way is to get a few from above the car and the rest from underneath. Some guys have even mentioned loosening motor mounts and jacking up the engine
I know GM moved the engine back in the body for better balance....but making plugs this hard to change is just plain ridiculous. Plus try leaning over the front of a firebird to reach the engine. With the long nose and recessed engine fergittaboutit

Jack the car up high enough to comfortably work and support it on jackstands . From the bottom of the car you should now see the sparkplug with no problem . Using just a 5/8 sparkplug socket and a ratchet remove the old sparkplug, next... put a little bit of anti-sieze on the threads of the new sparkplug and install it . Put the plug wire back on from the bottom too.. it's a lot easier . Take the car off the jackstands, clean up your tools , and enjoy !

To the OP,
If you remove the coil pack you can reach over the rear of the tappet cover and get the rear plug.
Getting to plug #8:
1) Remove coil packs
2) While standing in front of the passenger headlight, rest your left elbow on passenger side strut tower
3) Extend right arm with thumb pointing down and palm facing driver's side
4) Reach ~2" down and to the back (45-degree angle) behind the exhaust port for the #8 cylinder

That's the easiest way to get to it IMO. Then again, I have longtube headers, which may make it a little easier. Once you've found the plug, slide the socket on and see if you can get at it with the ratchet or the ratchet and a short extension. Once you get it loose, it may be easier to just turn the socket by hand.

best way ive found is too swing up the coil pack rail. take out all the bolts except the very last one in the back towards the fire wall, disconnect all plug wires, and rotate the rail towards the driver side, that'll give you enough room to get in there.
or just take the rail off mentioned in previous posts, just leave the last bolt out at the end of the rail towards the back, make it easier for next time.
