sound good? i think so :)

first things first, i live in california......

I have a hooker catback and thats it.
I am getting an intake for my ss very soon.

After this, i am going to get the cheatR cam from thunder racing (214/230). I was thinking about this and wondering, with the intake and minor exhaust changes with this cam and a proper tune what kind of wheel and engine horsepower am i looking at?

Also are there any associated mods that need to be done with just the cam install?? valvetrain stuff?

Unfortuneately you like in CA! With ANY cam, you sould have headers done to release the power the cam will make. If you dont add headers, you will be leaving a good deal of hp on the table. You could get shorties, but if you have a 00-02, your stockers are not that bad. This is a mild cam so you do NEED to worry about too much valvetrain stuff, maybe just springs. Anybody want to chime in on this?

while you have it apart you may as well upgrade other things.

you'll need the springs for sure, and probably hardened pushrods.

i would highly reccomend doing the LS6 oil pump, and the ls2 timing chain.

i wouldn't worry about the headers really, the gains from shorties is so small it really isn't worth the added cost.

would probably be worthwhile to save up for the SLP LS6 intake. all the benefits of the ls6 intake, but it has the provisions for the EGR.

Hay TEKE, are you going to make it to Ft Lauderdale from 3/15-3/19 to see the concept car? Camarokid, what year is the car?Auto or M6? You can get gears and/or conv w/out worring about being in Cali.

um.... its all in my signature.....

ya i was thinking about pushrods
valve springs? is there any specific kind or just go to tbyrne or something and buy "valve springs".....

ls6 oil pump ill check it out
when u say ls6 intake do you mean intake MANIFOLD? if so why not just get a FAST intake, aren't they better?

well anyways like my origional question was, my air intake catback and cheatR cam what kind of engine/wheel horsepower am i looking at?

well if you bought a f.a.s.t. your an idiot, that f.a.s.t. is only truely benificial for huge h/c setups. you just going with a mild cam so i would just stick to the ls6 intake manifold.

yeah in cali lts are illegal that is why he prolly chose the cheatr cam, it is meant to be used with stock exhaust... that is why the exhaust lift and duration is much higher...

are you taking about an intake LID, or and LS6 intake manifold?

at a way to post the same damn thing 4 times... with a minor revision on the 4th...

you dont NEED and ls6 oil pump, but the stock one is kind of weak so it is best to buy one and just be safe!

well teke is saying to get an ls2 timing chain since it is 35 dollars and a bajillion times strong than the ls1...

Re: sound good? i think so :)

ya sorry i didn't mean to post so many.

I am talking about an air intake.
Im not going to get an intake mainfold cuz its too much money, money i don't have.

So i am going to get a timing chain, pushrods, and valve springs to go with my cheatR cam.

i was talking about the intake manifold. and i agree, the FAST is not the best choice for your setup. it won't flow much more over the LS6 with that cam, and for the $1200 pricetag for intake and TB...it's just ludacris to buy.

the ls6 intake is WELL worth it on a cammed engine. but i understand your budget problems. it is also something that is easily added later. it's a minimal amount of work to change it out. and it should have a minimal affect on any tuning. so it is a direct bolt in...minimal muss and fuss.

for the springs, talk to thunder, they'll give you the best choice as far as springs you need. the cheaTR has really high exhaust lift...so you need more than your average aftermarket spring.

as for power numbers. it's hard to say. TR made some amazing claims with that cam. granted they also said they got 415rwhp with my cam on nearly an identical setup. however i seemed to dyno in the 380s...so take it with a grain of salt.

i'd say with lid, cam, stock manifolds, catback and good tuning...360rwhp.

LS6 intake and shortie headers you'd probably pick up 15hp.

Re: sound good? i think so :)

that sounds awesome. 360 whp was way more than i was expecting to see.

Ya ill talk to thunder racing about the valve springs because i really have no idea about them

Re: sound good? i think so :)

The CheaTR is designed with stock manifolds in mind. 360 should be relatively easy to acheive with it. Best thing is, it will sound stockish so you can sneak up on people.

Do a search on ls1tech.com for some dynos.

Re: sound good? i think so :)

$1500 w/everything you need maybe.

Check local boards. I'm sure there are guys that'll install it out of their garage for a lot less. Some of the guys that do that around here are certified mechanics. They just wrench on the weekends to help support their race habbit.

Re: sound good? i think so :)

including no parts! i had to bring in the pushrods and valve springs and the cam..... THAN they would install of that for $1500! thats so lame i was really excited to get a cam too. I guess ill check around the local boards to see if anyone around here can do it for less because i really really wanna get this cam and i might just end up haing to install it myself. Is it really that hard becasue it sounded like a nightmare, but so does paying $1500 for an install so ya.....

stuck between a rock and a hard place......
