Soon to be LS1 owner

Alright fellas, i'm closing the deal on a 1999 TA, bone stock, auto, 3.23 rear, and 86,000 miles. The car had one owner, female, all service records from chevy dealership, in pristine condition. What should my first round of mods be? I'll have about $1000 after the deal to start modding. What is a good guess on rwhp and rwtq on the 99 TA's

I'd guess around 290whp being A4. I'd first do all the tune up things such as plugs fuel filter, maybe wires, I'd also recommend a transmission flush. After that's taken care of I'd get a lid, LT's, and X-pipe true duals. That could be a little over 1000 bucks there.

You could do lid, catback, and drag radials.

I'd get used to the car first, see how it corners/performs. I'd personally go with a lid first then get some Spohn sway bars and sub frames to make cornering alot better. After that you'd still have money for a catback if you wanted one.

Are you going to be doing the moding yourself? First off go with the SFCs and then look into lid, exhaust and some stickier tires. What are your future goals with the car?

I just bought a 2001 SS and my first mod is a SLP fan switch, I can't believe they let these cars run at 195 + degrees!

Save a good chunk of that money for future repairs, because things WILL go wrong.

I dont think I will understand the "rush" to mod.. Find out your baseline first. .What good is a mod when you have no idea or solid proof it has helped?

Get a dyno run and then go to the track.. then mod.
Learn to drive the car. Sure its an auto but that doesnt mean you instantly know how to drive it.. I have friends that were getting 13.8's in their auto LS1's but when I got behind the wheel I was pulling 13.2's. Why were the times different? Different drivers with different techniques.. Learn your car and what is best for it and then when you mod you will get the most out of the beneficial mods. Find out if your car needs traction now or if it has plenty. If you have traction then do some power mods.. If you have no traction adding power now will do you nothing.. so add traction (suspension and tires)..

Good luck.

First mod should be subframe connectors. I ran nitrous on my 01 z28 and twisted up the unibody a little. The t tops started to rattle and squeek from the body twisting up from the added power. Then my hatch would be hard to open and the passengers door was also hard to open.Take care of the chassis flex before any mod. I learned from experience.

I totally agree with this. On my 200K mile LT1 subframe connectors made a HUGE difference in how solid the car felt. If i ever get a newer one that will be my first mod, just to stop stuff from twisting out of shape.
