Post SLP vs. FLP Headers

I've heard that SLP is longer.
+ Longer means more HP/TRQ.
- Longer means bottoming out on it.

FLP
+ Shorter, better for lowered cars.
- Shorter means less HP/TRQ than Longer.

Any dyno gains on these?
What should I do?

without getting into a big fiasco (since its been beaten to death) id stay away from the slp headers. if it has to be one of the tow...flp hands down. if you are open to suggestions, id strongly consider hooker's coated by jet-hot.

Everything I have ever read or seen pretty much disagrees with that about the SLPs having the most power.

I have heard many comments about the SLP not producing as much power as some other LTs. A local person here in STL had SLPs installed and lost power when moving up from one of the mid-length headers, MAcs maybe?, cant recall. He then sold the SLPs to some guy with a show car and went to FLP and saw a nice gain. SLPs look very pretty, but I dont think I have ever heard anyone say they offered the best performance. And they do hang very low. And they are a real PITA to install. Show car guys seem to like SLP because they are shiny and stainless.

FLPs are used by several cam and head retailers when testing their cams and heads and trying to get the max power out of them so they can brag about big numbers. MTI seems to do this for sure. FLPs are very respected for their power output. And they have an easy install, maybe the easiest of the LTs. And they come with the offroad pipes, a great plus. They just have been accused of having quality and production problems recently, and some retailers have stopped selling them, possibly due to this.

Another header manufacture to check out is TTS. They are the one I went with. They also offer high gains and excellent quality, and an easy install. They are similarly priced to FLP but have no ORPs. I recommend them.

Anyway, these are just my opinions and others will certianly disagree. Take them for what they are worth, but I'd get TTS or FLP if you want performance and an easy install, and avoid SLP unless you are building a glitzy showcar.

Thumbs up

I think there are some other things to consider.
(1) How much you spending
(2) Do you want the entire kit ( cats+y-pipe+gaskets+extenders )
(3.) Are you lowered or planning on it ??

I have the SLP kit, it was very high in quality and fit. I did the install my self,
at home, and it was not to bad.

The SLP give about 4" clearance. I chose them for the price and the finish.
The install required no additional parts.

with hotcam+lid+catback ( manifold+y-pipe+cats were stock )
330/330
added SLP kit ( headers+cats+y-pipe )
351/364
after 10 months the parts are still in great
shape.. no problems.
