SLP "Performance Prepped"

I just talked to a guy who is selling his 99 SS, and he said that it is 1 of 10 that were "performance prepped" What does this mean? what is different about these cars? I am considering buying it. Here is what he lists as mods.

SLP air box
K&N filter
SLP y-pipe
B&B cat back
Hooker equal length headers-ceramic coated in and out
shock tower brace
center force clutch
370+hp

That car doesnt seem any special.

Perhaps he thinks that SLP cars were special in some way.. Who knows.. The power estimate seems real enough to not matter.. but its not at the rear wheels thats for sure..

that's another thing i was wondering...how much should I offer for it. It's got 48,000 miles on it, and it is in incredible condition. The sign he had said 16,500, but if i remember correctly, I think he said he would do 15,000...maybe it was 14....i don't remember

I don't think it is really a "special" car. More of just a "different" car...but I don't know what is different about it.

What was the rear great ratio for the SS in 99?

3.42 for the gears.

What color is the SS? What kind of options does it have...T-tops..ASR, cd changer etc etc.

The price seems a little steep, I saw a 99 SS, black fully loaded, 16k miles for 17700 the other day, so IDK.

Oh and I would put the RWHP at about 330-350.

It's red/grey leather, 6spd, t-tops, asr, pretty much everything but a changer...I just called him and he said it came with 3.73 gears, and a lighter driveshaft(aluminum?) so i guess that's what it means by "performance prepped" He was saying he would take 12,500 plus my stock, 10 year old lt1 that i could probably only get 2,500 on a trade anyway...if i'm lucky

Holy hell, that guy is full of crap and if I were you I would tell him so. No car came from the factory or SLP with 3.73 gears. All SS's came with the aluminum driveshaft because all either had the 6 speed or the performance rear end for the auto. The only cars who got a steel driveshaft were Z28's and T/A's with a 2.73 rear end. The only performance SLP options for '99 was a cat-back exhaust (not B&B tri-flow, but an SLP dual-dual). I believe a torsen rear differential was offered, a castrol synthetic fluids package, and a suspesion package. Get the vin number off the car and call SLP from the guys house, put it on speaker phone and watch the guys face as they tell you about the car. You may find out that the car in question doesn't have any of the SLP Y2Y options on it! Good luck.

All 6 speed cars got aluminum, and all automatic cars with the performance rearend (3.23's) got an aluminum one. The only cars that got steel were the automatics with 2.73's. All of this is for LS1 cars only. I had a '97 Z 6 speed that had a steel driveshaft.

Nope. My friend's '01 Z28 6-speed with 3.42's and Non-speed rated tires came from the factory with a steel driveshaft.

Either someone lied to him when he bought it or he is lying to you.

Either way, it is a lie.

Ask him if he has any paperwork on this "special" car. If it's 1 of 10 you would think he would have some type of documentation to go with the car....
