SLP option...?

If it has the WU8 code it is a real SS. From my understanding GM built the 98-02 SSs at the GM plant and they went to SLP if they got SLP optional equipment (Y2Y options).
You can call SLP and give them your VIN# and they will tell you the build number. They used to have a message board forum for finding out your build number, I don't know if it is still around though. I am sure a search would bring up the phone number to call. Congrats on the ride.

Take a look at the back of your doors for a couple of decals the same size as the tire loading ones.
The one on the driver's side will tell you the month it left SLP and the one on the passenger's door will list the SLP options it came with.
Not sure if all years of SS's had the decals, but my 01 does.

GM took the SS in-house in the later years. However, as mentioned, if it was ordered with optional equipment like the Auburn or one of the suspensions, it went to SLP.
As noted, your car will have WU8 on the code sticker on the driver's door. Your car will only have a SLP sticker on the passenger door if it was ordered with additional SLP options.
Call SLP for your build #, and have your VIN ready.

Take a Z28, slap on an SS hood and spoiler, add a set of SS wheels and presto.....you have an SS. Well not really, it just looks like one and the only way you can tell if it's a "true" SS is to check the RPO codes on the inside of the drivers door for the code WU8. If it has that code then it is a "real" SS and not a fake.
