SLP Loudmouth too loud?
SLP Loudmouth too loud?
Hey guys,
I have a 99' Camaro Z/28 Automatic, and I am constantly torn between what exhaust to get to replace the stock exhaust. I want either magnaflow or SLP loudmouth. I probably am not going to get headers so i dont need to worry about excessive noise. Do you think this SLP exhaust is police friendly? I heard a mustang GT 2003 with it and its so loud it isnt funny, but that is with an aftermarket H pipe on it. Any help regarding the police and this exhaust system is greatly appreciated. I could care less about annoying drone as this isnt my daily driver. THanks.

Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
Id avoid the loudmouth, especially if you ever plan on putting headers on the car. If you want a simple catback, I'd personally go for the Hooker, and get some nice tips for it because the Hooker tips are hideous.
Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
I have a Hooker catback on my car for the time being, and it sounds really good. It could be alittle louder, but its definelty alot louder than stock. I had the Magnaflow awhile back, and it is just too quiet in my opinion. The loudmouth is definetly loud, and it definetly drones alot. I would only get that if you really, really want a loud exhaust. Some people complain about the way it sounds too. It is really raw.
Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
Local noise laws/enforcement varies, I run around with my cutout open most of the time and never have any problems. IMO it's best to listen to the setup you're thinking about buying in person - visit www.ls1sounds.com - might give you some ideas.
Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
Dynomouth for me. (think custom made TSP rumbler)
Sounds fantastic on my stock car, but when headers go in, i'm changing it to duals.
I'd say that even on a stock car, the loudmouth is just that. too loud. with headers and an ORY, it would be stupid loud.

Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
Get the TSP Rumbler without tips.
It's very free-flowing, has a nice rumble to it at idle and it sounds like the car really means business when you step on the gas. It has a bullet muffler underneath the car and really cleans up the rear of the car without a huge muffler back there. It won't really attract the attention of cops and it sounds so cool when you go under an overpass or drive in a parking garage.
I have SLP's y-pipe on mine and it makes the sound a little deep. My friend's friend has the same setup as me minus the y-pipe and his is slightly louder and throatier. It's all up to your personal preference.

Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
I've had my SLP for a year or so, and it is AWESOME! It sounds mean. I've gotten so many compliments on how good it sounds. I have never had trouble with the police (for noise at least
) I've been pulled over, and none of the officers have ever even mentioned the exhaust. And I don't live in the middle of nowhere niether, I'm in a pretty strict city. So, sure its a risk, but its worth it.

The loudmouth sounds alot better on a Mustang than on an F-Body. I don't think you would be disappointed.

My friend has ludmouth exhaust on his 98 Z28 and its freaking loud! You can hear him coming from a mile away, thats a scary *** sound if i were a little kid and i heard that i would hide somewhere.......On the other hand i just got a magnaflow exhaust installed over the flowmaster one that i used to have and its really nice, real deep tone and not too loud but not very quiet either. If your state is really strict with noise pollution laws then i wouldn't consider a loudmouth, especially if your in virginia.

but.....I was looking at SLP for a while, but I'm guessing the SLP LM or LM II will be too loud for what I'm looking for. Based on the comments I have read here and various reviews, I'm leaning towards the Magnaflow cat-back (good balance of decent power gains and mellow tone). Problem is I can't find anyone that actually has the Magnaflow cat-back installed to hear in person. I'm looking for something that has a low rumble (low in tone/note and volume) and does not have:
1. The popping/raspy/tinny rattle some systems have when revving and on decel (had Flowmasters on a truck- sounded like crap since it was so raspy).
2. The "drone" at hwy speeds- especially since it is a convertable.
What are your impressions since you put the Magnaflows on, in reference to what I said I'm looking for? Some have said they are too quiet (for their taste), but with the rag-top I'm thinking it would be on the mark.
Other suggestions to the above welcome!
Allen
Re: SLP Loudmouth too loud?
I've got the original loudmouth on my 93 t/a. Its perfect. Its loud enough to get attention for sure and its fine on the inside. It doesn't interfere with my 4 stock crappy speakers when I'm blastin' the tunes...
