You'll be loud and mean alright. Some people are very uptight about rasp, others could care less. If you like it, then go for it. All catbacks are raspy without cats.

Thats pretty much what I have on my car right now, and it's not as bad as you would think. While driving around normal with the radio on just a little (not very loud) you can't really hear the exhaust. But, when you get on it the car sounds great-I punched it the other day next to some as* riding his bike in the middle of the road and I thought he was going to wreck his bike-I think he shi* himself

Listen for yourself. There's lots of loudmouth setups using offroad ypipes + longtube headers. Doesn't sound bad at all.

I personally would do gutted cats and find a nice muffler to get rid of most rasp, resonnance, and excessive noise..

switch the LM resonator for an 18" dynomax bullet...it makes a HUGE difference in cutting down the rasp. i get nothing but compliments about my car.

lol People seem to think that cats are robbing them of mucho HP. Try about 5 max diff. between offroad and bullets. All of your rasp problems can be solved with some good bullet cats, and you won't even notice a difference in power.

the stock cats ABSOLUTELY do cost a ton of power. i dropped from a 12.90 to a 12.30 with LTs and an ORYP....you CAN'T tell me that all 6 tenths came from the headers themselves.

You obviously didn't read my post. I was talking bullet cats vs. offroad ypipe.
Second: he's running a bone stock LS1 with stock exhaust manifolds. Gutting the cats isn't going to give him much of a boost either.

Yes, I can tell you that the 6/10 came from the headers, because you went to a full exhaust setup (longtubes, offroad pipe, catback), and you also have a stall and a host of other mods. Unless the exhaust swap was done in the parking lot of the racetrack on the same day, that's not much of a comparison either. Track conditions change, weather changes, etc. many things could have contributed as well.

Gutting stock cats flowing from stock exhaust manifolds into a stock y-pipe won't net much power, as they're still restricting flow.

But being as this post is about SOUND, I'd say it won't sound that far off from an offroad pipe.

Don't do it you will be pissed, My brother did exactly what you are talking about with his 96 WS6 it sounded like ****, he got a muffler on it the day after. Not only did it sound bad it cut his power, the car ran like crap, but as soon as he replaced the resonator that makes up the LM it ran awesome. I guess he didn't have any Back Pressure.

mufflers don't make much backpressure, if any. Gutting the cats can make it run like *** if you don't swith to o2 sims.

Yeah don't blame it on the Loudmouth or no backpressure. Cause it just isn't true.

I first put the loudmouth on the factory manifolds with stock y and it sounded great. Didn't loose any power.
Then I put a 2 step rev limiter on and had to dump the cats or take a chance on blowing the car up from unburnt fuel in the cats. It was too raspy so I added a 12" Dynomax bullet. Sounded great. Didn't loose any power then either.
Went to heads/cam/longtubes and raspy again. Added resonator tips, they're like little glass pack mufflers that look decent. Car sounds wicked nasty and I've never had anyone say that they thought it sounded bad. Matter a fact I had one guy walk up to me in the staging lanes and tell me that he thought that my car sounded "like one pissed off mother........."

The whole "backpressure" thing is overrated. The stock cats actually flow suprisingly well and I'm sure you could find a set for cheap if you really wanted them. Anyways, the gutted cats and LM will sound good at idle and WOT, but everywhere else is crappy. I am currently trying to upgrade my DynoMouth because of this and am thinking of using a Borla XR-1.

Re: SLP loudmouth with gutted cats...humor me

Hey man thats just what happened, and we had 02 simulators. 96 WS6 was bone stock and we put the loudmouth on it and it sounded great, then we took the cats off, bad mistake with the LM. The car sounded like crap, and ran like crap. Did nothing more than replace the resonator with a bullet, and everything sounded great with good performance.

That's just what happened I just figured it was not enough back pressure.
