Question SLP loud mouth...

What would be the benefit of having an SLP Loud Mouth with an exhaust cutout running open headers? From my understanding the cutout is meant to bypass the muffler to let the exhaust out... Arent the LMs designed without a muffler? Im just wanting to know because these are the mods im planning to do. If youve done this, what was the gain and what do you run 1/4mi.

There will be zero gain using a cutout on a Loudmouth exhaust, unless you put the cutout in the Y-pipe. Since the loudmouth is just a 3" straight pipe exhaust, it already performs much of the same function as a cutout.

I wouldn't waste the $30 on a cutout.

Loudmoufs are loud.

And no, I dont believe they have a muffler, just a resonator. What a lot of people are doing to get rid of the loudmouth 2K RPM drone is replacing the resonator with a Borla XR1 muffler. So if you did that, and a cutout, thatd be sweet.

But dont put the cutout right after the header if thats what you meant.

LM and LT's sound like crap...I'm trying to sell my LM as we speak and get sumpin' better sounding. With stock manifolds it sounds good though.

When I got mine I could listen to it through FTFORCE.COM. They have a sound sampler.

It's excellent, and the recording is right on. They also let you hear Borla, Hooker, Flowmaster.

But the SLP was the best.

i'm doing a swap this weekend on an 02' SS with SLP long tubes with cats and it already has a loudmouth on it with the slp y pipe. it sounds good now, but just the same i've warned him it's only going to sound good with the headers under wot. my exhaust of choice on the LS1 f-bodies and y-bodies (LS6 also there) is corsa.

Well actually you can use a Dynomax bullet Race Muffler and make it a Dynomouth.. You can also use Magnaflow, Edelbrock or any other race muffler that is a straight through design... If you want a great sound replace the SLP Resonator w/ a Dynomax Bullet 18" (if you are going to upgrade to header and or a OR Y-pipe).. If you are going to leave Stock Manifolds and stock Y-Pipe get the 12" muffler... Then you will have Dynomouth Exhaust... You can also do the DM mod on the Stock I-pipe and still flow as well as a LM...

Loudmouth is very raspy sounding and loud but I prefer the DM since it is a cleaner sound and quieter while Idling but at WOT DM screams like a banshee... Why do a cutout when you have LM, DM or any other race muffler in the I-pipe ?? especially you would have to get an electronic cutout in the y-pipe or before resonator or race muffler, plus it depends in your area if any exhaust shop will install it.. In my area, no exhaust shop will install a cutout since they are illegal and from what every exhaust shop has told me that they leak after a while...

I like my LoudMouth and I am happy that I went with it. You can't go wrong for the money and the performance and sound, but I will have to see what it would sound like with LT headers on it

No offence. In my personal opinion, there is no such thing as TOO much.

Thanks people... Honestly, I like it loud! It cant possibly be worse than the guy in the Civic now can it? Oh and i would love to buy a Corsa exhaust, but paying for the car/insurance/school/etc. wouldnt leave me that much money left to buy one Im going with the SLP LTs, cant go wrong with $350 and up to 25hp, even if it means going deaf in the process

It's not just loud- it's raspy and has a terrible drone, especially btw 2200 and 2500 rpms, and in between gear shifts it pops alot. Oh, and the interior noise is outrageous. My first car was a 72 Chevelle with glasspacks, and it sounded better than my Z28 does. I think I'm going with GMMG pretty soon.
