SLP air lid problem
SLP air lid problem
I just bought a new cold air intake system off of a guy from ebay who said the system would fit my 1999 Z28. When I got the system, however, the air lid had a hose for the emissions breather (the package was for 00-02, not 99). How can I have that work with my '99 Z28? Is everything else in the package is the same as the 99 version?
Re: SLP air lid problem
When I put the aftermarket lid on my '02, the lid came with a little breather filter that goes in the hose that originally connected to the factory lid. I don't know if that was different pre-2000??
Otherwise, if you're just curious what to do with that hose that plugged into the factory air lid, all you need is a small filter to go into it, and tie off that hose somewhere under the hood
.
Hopefully that answers your question?
If not, obviously there's something about the '99 that I'm unaware of.

Re: SLP air lid problem
On mine, the air lid came with a grommet that plugged off that hole entirely. just take a lighter to it, get it hot, and pinch off the soft hot plastic to close it up, or buy a little breather filter, or find a grommet to plug it.

Re: SLP air lid problem
To put a late model lid on an early car you need to plug the hole in the lid, securely.
To put an early model lid on a late car then you need a filter for the AIR inlet hose.
Other than that all LS1 f-bodies use the same stuff for air induction before the MAF.

Re: SLP air lid problem
Thanks I got the hole plugged with a rubber stopper. I have the cold air induction package installed, but the air lid does not seem to fit perfectly. The back of the lid is not sealed nor are the sides - there are slits on both sides of the lid. I'm not sure if the lid is leaking air but the filter support frame seems a bit too high. Is this supposed to be like this or is my lid not correctly installed? Also with the flowpac the slp smooth bellow does not fit really well either, the cuts pre-made by SLP do not fit correctly. Anyone else have this problem?
Re: SLP air lid problem
This is actually a common problem with most aftermarket lids
. I don't know if you're using a K&N filter or what, but I think that if you use the factory paper filter, it has a much thicker gasket/seal around the outside edge, and it should seal up against the bottom of the lid. I've heard that there is an aftermarket filter (maybe Accel???
) that actually supplies a separate gasket to go between the filter and the lid?
(I've never really looked into it, but someone should be able to confirm that). Otherwise, some guys have put a strip of foam weatherstrip across the back edge and the sides of the lid so that it'll seal once it's in place.

Re: SLP air lid problem
Used a rubber stopper to plug the hole on mine when I did the !AIR. As for the fit, make sure the lid is pushed back all the way and the front lip of the lid is tucked INSIDE of the lower airbox. Otherwise the fit will be off and the little metal clamps will pop off all the time.
Re: SLP air lid problem
As a temporary solution I did buy foam strips from home depot and put it around the sides. There doesn't seem to be any air leaking through the lid, but just incase I stuffed it next to there. The inner lid seems to seal with the filter gasket - the foam strips under the support frame pushes the frame pretty far out. As for the back, I'm not sure how to seal that off since the foam strips will not stay and I don't want to glue it down. The air lid in the front is tucked behind the lower lid in the middle but the edges are a little bit in front of the lower lid. I'll take the whole thing apart sometime and try stuffing the bellow on the throttle body and then fit the MAF and lid onto the bellow, maybe that'll fit better.
