Shorty Headers

Now I know Shorty Headers are pretty much a waste of money if you are looking for the best gain, but I am under emmision and inspection control. However, I have a couple of questions about them.

1) Will they change the sound of the car at all? I want it to be louder. I will be running a cat-back, no cut-out.

2) Will I have to change the Y-pipe? (I dont want an ORYP..even if it is possible to put one on with shorties)

3) Will I have to change anything else? Or will I just need the headers and gaskets?

4) I have always heard that shorties make good low end power, so I am curious to how much low end power they make. Like, at 2000-4000 RPM, what will the power increase be? What will the max out-put be?

5) How many companies make these. All I can find is JBA.

Thanks all!

I have had Edelbrock 50 state legal short headers on my car for about a year now. I had the headers ceramic coated.

1) In addition to the headers I have the SLP y-pipe and Magnaflow cat-back. All of these together have made the car louder than stock. Much more so at wide open throttle but not so loud I get stopped by the police. I do not have any interior resonance. I have heard the GMMG cat back on another car which was othewise stock and it was MUCH LOUDER.

2) You do not have to change the y pipe with true shorties because they keep the y pipe in the same place as the OEM exhaust manifolds.

3) I changed one piece at a time and was lucky enough not to have to change anything else. I can tell you that even with the ceramic coating i have burnt one plug wire out.

4) I did not dyno my car before but the after numbers are listed in my sig. Probably not worth much hp but definitely lighter than stock and every lb helps with a car this heavy.

Hope this helps.

If you have a 98-99 I have a set of shorties for sale here . 00-02 have a different y-pipe. They bolt up to OEM 98099 y-pipe. Can't offer much comparison to stock since the car came with the shorties. I switched to LT's with ORY since MI has no emissions to pass. I had no problems with burned wires for the 10k mi I put on even without coating. If you want coated you could always contact jet-hot. Now asking $150 shipped.
