My stock hurst, although not terrible, is somewhat difficult to shift. Especially the 2-3 shift. I thought it was just me until I noticed the other postings. I love manuals and I also have a manual in my Dakota; it is very smooth. I felt I deserved something close to that in my Z28 so I bought the B&M.

Our weather here has also been horrible (a lot of snow this year) so I haven't installed my B&M yet but I am hoping for a big improvement.

Just try it. It's all in the feel. It was my first, and best mod. ls1speed.com is having a GP on the Pro 5.0 - $165 shipped. You can't beat that.

Personally I have the 5.0 and love it better than the ripper(which I've also driven with), they have to different feels so my advice would be too find a couple of friends that have each in there car and test them out before you make your decision.

My shifter has never come loose or anything like that. You just need to use some locktite on the bolts. I agree though it does vibrate a bit more.

If you currently have the stock M6 shifter, you will really enjoy any of the high quality replacement units. Kirban Kwik, B&M Ripper, Pro 5.0 power tower, Hurst Billet plus, SLP short throw. And if your on a budget, the Lou's short stick on your factory shifter would be a big improvement. I am very happy with my B&M Rippah. By the way, all the aftermarket shifters are noisier than the stocker, they lack the dampening block (which is also what makes the stocker feel like a "butter knife in a mayonaise jar")

I'm also looking to get a new shifter. Is there one made specifiacally for street rather than strip? I've heard bad things and good things about both the B&M and the Pro 5.0. I haven't heard anything about the others. Assuming price was not an issue, which would you reccomend for a street application on a car with few mods, exhaust, k&n, etc....

Street vs. Strip is not an issue with these shifters. The B&M Ripper, the Hurst Billet and the Pro 5.0 are all going to be very noticeable improvements. Most of the differences between them are going to come down to personal preferences.
