Service engine soon light

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to reset the computer in a 99z so the service engine soon light will go off. Also, is there anyway to get the computer to flash the codes without a scanner.

Thanks,
Adam

1. Turn key to on postion but don't start the car.
2. Remove PCM BAT and PCM ING fuses that are located in the engine compartment.
3. Wait 5-10 minutes then turn the ignition key off.
4. Replace the fuses and sart your car.

You need an OBDII tester to check your codes.

Dude, I hope you have had the problem fixed because you may have a bad cat. I currently have a bad cat and I am throwing an ses code as well.

I know it sounds weird but here is the story. First I get a ses light and I notice a little rattling noise. At first i thought it was the shroud that covers the gas tank. After a bit, and a lot of time trying to find someone with a OBDII scanner, the noise got much louder and I realized it was my cat. So, I cut the cat off and hollowed it out and put it back on, I was thinking that at least there wouldn't be any noise. This is the interesting part. After I hollowed out the cat the ses light went away. So, then I go buy a slightly used y-pipe w/cats off a 99ss and bolt it on. Interestingly enough with the different setup on there the ses light just came back on after about two days of driving.

Is it true that you can get that replaced for free if you are under 80,000 miles? I remember someone saying that there is some sort of government warranty or something, but I'm not positive about that.

Would that warranty be void if you have an exhaust cut-out?!?

Cats are warrented for up to 80,000 miles?? Anyone have some documentation on this? I was under the belief that their warranty was the same as the drive train - 36,000 miles.

From my Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet:

"For 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first: If the catalytic converter or vehicle (powertrain) control module is found to be defective, GM will repair or replace it under the Federal Emission Control Warranty."

Friend of mine threw code P0420, dealership replaced his bank 1 cat for free. He had an aftermarket catback but no cutout at the time.
