Service engine soon?

I just bought a 2000 Camaro SS from a dealership. I stopped at a gas station to fill it up w/ premium gasoline.....now the Service Engine Soon light came on. Is this possibly related to the gasoline i put in? I just bought the car today and it seemed as if there were no problems with it, and it runs great. Any suggestions?

also, where can i find the rear bumper insert for the "CAMARO" on the back end? i had one for my old 1994 camaro, but i cant remember where i bought it at.

thanks

Re: Service engine soon?

Make sure the gas cap is tight, turn it until it clicks, this should solve your problem.

Go to Auto Zone they will scan it for free that is the best way to figure out the problem is to see what that code is.

Yeah, or just bust for the $300 + change and pick one up, so you'll have it all the time

Loose gas cap on an LS1 f-body will set a code. If that's it will take 3 or 4 key cycles after you tighten it for it to go away by itself.

Or bust ~$425 and get a Predator tuner.
read and reset codes
scan sensors live
tunes lots of stuff
and can grow with you. I got mine when I was stock with a high stall converter. I'm still using it to run low 11s as a heads/cam race car.

In most states if that appears, it will not pass inspection. Better take it back and have the code checked. Might run fine, but better safe than sorry. As for the CAMARO inserts, if you are looking for the crome I bought mine thru SS-Inserts.com if you are looking for plastic or nylon check http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/vinyl/vinyl.htm as he is a vendor and supports this site.

Re: Service engine soon?

I found out what the problem was....its my catalytic converter. I need to get a hold of the dealership and see if its under warranty. If not, would this be a good time to get new headers and exhaust? If so, what costs would i be looking at for headers, exhaust, and labor? and which products are good?

P0420 or P0430? Possibility it could be a rear 02, but most likely it is the cat though. Stock cats are covered for 8 yrs/80K under the federal emissions warranty at any GM dealership. Since you just bought the car see what your dealership says. Lots of posts on those codes in the PCM diagnostics section.

Remember that if you change your whole exhaust at this time, the warranty will be no good for any thing. I bought my Pacesetters from http://www.texas-speed.com/ and they also make a catted-Y pipe (two cats already welded to the y-pipe), which is a good deal for the price. If you buy two cats seperatly, you are going to pay out the azz.

ok everyone i think might be throwing you in the wring direction..is it a check engine light or a service light...if it is a service light you probably need an oil change if it is the check engine light yea you probably left the gas cap loose

I just tripped that same code(P0430). Am I not covered under the warranty due to replaceing everything after the cats?

Re: Service engine soon?

Contact your local dealer(s) and see what they say, some are stricter than others. I can tell you I know people who had them replaced free with catbacks and cutouts (capped of course).

Sure, but you can't find a nicer and better guy to deal with than Brent Franker. PLUS he is a supporting advertiser for this site, to boot!

Might cost you a few bucks more than on Ebay, but you'll definetely get a quality product and service.
