Service Engine Soon

Hey guys once again i was just driving down a road at 30mph and check engine soon light came on. i had this happen 8 monthes ago and i ended up needing to catalytic converter. Could it be bc my cutout has been open for a couple monthes. Should i take it somewhere first to find out problem. then take it to dealership bc i have 100$ deductable. Wut would be my best option... Maybe new O2 sensors should i try to get gutted cats or a whole new catback???

Tighten your gas cap and reset the comp and see if it pops on again.

Get the code pulled at a place like Autozone, etc. See what the problem is first. If its major, or you can't figure it out, go to the dealer for warranty. If its simple you can fix it and KNOW what it was instead of pretending it didn't happen and hoping it'll go away.

Autozone has a scanner tool that will read your trouble codes for free, and I believe they can also clear the memory and old codes for free too.

Yes, autozone can scan AND clear your code(s) for you at no charge.

Its your cutout, it happened to me with my 01. the chevy guys said the computers were more sensitive on the newer f bodys, it never happened to me with my 98. i reset my computer and it stayed off but came on every once in a while.

I guess it depends on the Autozone. The one I went to in Austin REFUSED to clear my code for "liability" reasons. They will read it for free though.

BTW, is your cutout located before or after your rear O2 sims? If it's before, I could definetly see that bringing on the SES light.

That would explain allot, because after I installed a flowmaster and HPPIII, I started throwing SES codes for the cats as well. The dealer replaced one of the cats and all was well for a while then more codes. So, I replaced the flowmaster (the 2000 rpm drone killed me) with a Dynomax, and dropped the HPPIII engine tuning.
Since then I've seen the code twice in a year...Not twice a month.
