Post Sealing the airbox --- mod ?

I think I remember hearing someone in the past talking about sealing the airbox in their WS6.

I searched the net and found several sites that list this mod, but they all link back to the same AOL page which is no longer there.

So, anyone want to help me out on this?

When you say to seal the airbox do you mean to make it a true pressurized system or to eliminate it?

Also, newbie, what mods do you have to your SS, 105mph in the quarter seems a little slow but your 1/4 time is good @12.9x, are you running DRs?

Well, ...
  • FRA
  • K & N
  • MTI Lid
  • 2800 Vig Stall
  • Throttle Stop Mod
  • Egr
  • HPP3 - set for RFG programming , fans optimized for 195 stat , 25% up on shift firmness
  • Borla Exhaust w/ smallest plate

I have had the plugs/wires changed - MSD wires, I *think* (they are red-does that help ? ) & TR 555 plugs (? again - I must have the !Brain mod when it comes to that ! ) - tires are Kumho's.

Times are from a run w/ 3/4 + tank of gas - I don't think I ever launched @ greater than 1500 RPM due to wheelspin.

That was the best run of 7 , BTW - I had one that was a 14.1 or so thanks to spin city outta the hole !!
(Fortunately, I was racing against a friend, so I didn't feel too bad !! )

Newbie, thanks I appreciate it. A few other questions, what was your 60' time? and which Kuhmos 777? The auto explains the 105mph.

I ran the gtech once , 13.30 at 109mph (corrected) . I have ordered Nitto DRs and hope to break into the 12s shortly thereafter

I'm going to try and steer this thread back into the direction of my original question.

As for teh question of what I am trying to do ... I don't know. I just remember hearing about this mod and I'm trying to find out what the mod is and what it might do for me.

So ... anyone know anything about it?

I do not remember the 60' exactly -

seems like it was a 1.86 or therabouts.

I'll have to bring the slip to work Monday.

I have Kumho Ecsta 712's - the ones w/ the huge rain groove down the middle.

$120.00/tire - 10K on 'em - about 1/2 worn.
I did not think I wuz gonna rotate 'em. but wound up doing it. (I kinda figured I would ruin the rears & replace them as required. )

Thus, I have insured myself equal (fast) tire wear !

Oh, I forgot 1 mod - the 1/2 MAF !

That's a factory screened inlet coupled w/ a Thunder Racing rear.

I have some CXI units that came w/ the car if you need some.

Cotton, I don't know anything about the mod you are referring too but if it helps seal the airbox so that it becomes a true pressurized system, like the FTRA, then you will definately gain from it. I have heard the FTRA is good for 10rwhp at over 80mph (causing the pressure in the system). I have the SS so I am currently looking to mod my system to make it a true pressurized system. Take a look at your and see what you can come up with. Is this what you were hoping for?
