is this safe????

I was playing with my hypertech today and i upped my shift points 2 mph for 1-2 and 2-3. i made a quick pass (only first and second gear) with the car hooked up to an autotap and it registered a MAX 1st gear RPM of 6212 RPMs. My valve train is stock and the car feels great with the shift up higher......is this TOO high????

No, you can safely go to about 6400 rpms. Understand that your tach is going to always be slow so you will need a shift lite or just leave it in drive.

rev limiter is set to 6400 rpm. sound ok??

i dont bother trying to shift it....i was great at it with the stock converter but its real tough to get right with this one. i just leave it in drive....i'd like to get a shiftlite but i wouldnt know where to set it since theres that delay between the time u actually shift the shifter and the time the transmission switches gears.

thanx for the input...

I would have to disagree. I broke a pushrod raising the max rpm. If you have a stock valvetrain you should leave the stock limiter in place. You don't make good power that high with stock cam anyway.

If you look around at the LS1 specific sites you will see that most people do run them to 6400 rpm's.

I had my rev limiter set at 6600 for an entire season. I had the shift lift set at 6400 on a bone stock motor. I can quarantee you that you gain atleast 2 tenths from raising your rev limiter. My stock heads, pushrods and everything else were fine when the h/c went on.
Most people bend pushrods due to miss shifts at high rpms.

You have an A4. You are much LESS likely to bend a pushrod than if you had an M6. I also had my rev limiter set to 6400 or 6500 when I went to the track this summer so I could experiment with raising shift points to see if / how much it helped. No problems that I know of so far. I think it's only risky if you've got an M6, where you are likely to miss a shift and rev beyond ~6400 rpm.

thanx for the input everyone...i've always heard it was usually M6s that bend pushrods but i just wanted to make sure everything was cool....

think u can --> 2 tenths would put me a lot closer to bolt on only 11.99 but im not that optimistic about getting that much...
(not running ridiculous pig-rich and not having a FULL weight car would help too lol)

once again thanx for the input!

Yeah, but there is one big difference between the LT1 and the LS1 which makes it unsafe to rev the LS1 too high on stock internals --- PUSHRODS. The stock LS1 pushrods have been known to bend every now and then when over-revved.

IM GLAD SOMEONE METIONIONED THAT , I assumed being the LS1 was superior and had a higher redline that it wouldnt hurt it . I dont think i want to bend the push rod . Is it more in e certain year then others ? maybe because of the cam difference ??
