#'s to expect

Hey guys. I'm leaning towards an 98-02 SS. Just need some advice first.

Let's say the SS is BONE STOCK. What RWHP should i be expecting with these mods..

1. SLP cold air intake
2. SLP loud mouth 1
3. Y pipe off road
4. Headers (anybody know a good make for them?)

thanks guys

well the 98-01 SS has the LS1 intake, while the 02 SS came stock with the LS6 intake. This adds a little HP. I dont know how much but is is a difference. With those bolt-ons you're PROBABLY looking at 340-350 HP (in an 02).

Re: #'s to expect

more like 340 ish, or lower. you're very capable of much more (360), with a good tune.
99+ have bigger injectors, 99's have the biggest cam, and some 01-02 came with LS6 blocks! your choice. the newer versions also have basicaly shorty header exhaust manifolds. LS1=LS1 some naturally dyno higher, some lower. the deciding factor should be what the best deal is and whats been best cared for.

Re: #'s to expect

Whoa guys...knowledge base is slipping in this thread. 99's had the smaller injectors (26#ers), 01's had the LS6 intake too (not just 02's) and true some of the last f-bodies came with an LS6 block...but that won't improve performance.

If you get an M6 with those mods, then you're looking at mid 340's for rwhp. A tune could net you another 10hp or so. An auto will drop you 10hp or so....but they are great when you add an aftermarket converter. I expect mid to low 12's with the mods you've listed plus a converter/gears, which isn't bad at all considering the car went ~13.3 bone stock.

i was under the beliefe that only a few SS or Z28's had the LS6 in them. They were put in there by mistake, so they claim!!

wow knowledge is slipping..............as stated earlier........99's had the smallest injectors

98's had the LARGEST injectors and the MOST Aggresive cam of all the years. Yet the later versions 01-02 made more power simply because of the ls6 intake manifold and the ls6 exhaust manifolds.

The block has no real significance in power. There were a few other things that distinguish the 98 f-bodies from the 99-00 and 01-02, however i noted the large ones above. Search and find out which year/car is better for what you want to do.

yeah i am doing some research. And you guys are helping me a lot to. I really do appeciate it and all. What i plan doing to my next car is running it on all motor.. possibly no forced induction, ever. haha. So, i'm deciding on what camaro ss (98-02) that would provide good power and will respond the best to mods. I'll check out the 98 about the huge cams and big injectors. THanks guys

Don't get the wrong idea, the cam is hot HUGE by any means, just a little more agressive, same goes for the injectors.
