Royal Puple

Anyone have any opinions on using Royal Purple Synthetic in a 98 LS1?

I use it in the transmission and rear end. I use Mobil 1 in the motor.

After pulling the pan on my 00 with just 2 seasons (300 miles, 200 passes) of running RP, fresh every season and seeing all the black residue. I'll not be using it in my engine again.

It'll perform the same as any other full synthetic oil.

I would not recommend synthetic fluids for anything that uses clutches (i.e. automatic transmissions or clutch-type limited-slip differentials).

That is what manufacturers are calling for a lot of times. Both my Avalanche and my wife's Scion transmissions call for Synthetic.

98 Z28s have a clutch type Auburn posi and have synth in them from the factory and calls for synth as the replacement fluid.

Aftermarket clutch type posis like the Eaton HD specifically warn not to use synth.

So blanket statements like yours are not valid. Each has to be case by case.

No, Royal Purple blows. Read the whole thread, then look on LS1tech. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ghlight=AMSOIL

I run Redline Synthetic 10W40 with a WIX filter in my Vette. It's 9 bucks a quart, but consistently proven to be the best. And to the people bitching about the cost of oil... Do you change your oil every other day or something? If you change your oil every 2 or 3 months who gives a **** if a good quality oil change is $30 or $40 more?

In fact we will NOT warranty our performance builds if RP is used. We run our race motors at the ragged edge & we have to rely on good protection, RP does not. Anyone that wants to argue the point just put up $20k for one of our new race motors & we run one on M1 & one on RP, full load dyno runs and see which ones lasts. End of discussion.

I believe I have been saying this for the past 7+ years on here.. RP leaves a horrid residue and no engine builder I know would ever use it..
