Question Rockers gain and hp?

I was reading in a chevy mag. They added rockers on a 99vet LS1 and got some HP out of it. Has anyone done this? If So what were the gains?

I haven't done it....yet. I've been reading about 15~20 hp gains by upgrading to a full roller rocker with an increased ratio (1.7 to 1.85).

Well...if you change the ratio, you're gonna need new springs. Plus, I think the correct torque is 24 ft/lbs. Other than that, it should be relatively straight forward.

yeah you need new springs, the stock springs are all but maxed out on lift.

max lift on stock springs is .525" but if you upgrade to 02 ls6 springs the lift is up to .600"

some info i found while researching a while ago:

www.thunderracing.com has yella terra 1.8 rockers for $500. combo motorsports has a comp cam kit with the 1.85 rockers (or 1.75 i think), springs and retainers for $550

Besides the fact that they don't include springs how do the SLP rockers stack up against the others?

comp cams rockers are full roller...the SLP ones are only roller on the fulcrum not the tip....

take that as you will

I was lead to believe that with the comp cam I have now 224/228 with a 581/589 lift that I could not run roller rockers? Now was that due to the valve cover height?

roller rockers will fit under the covers. going to a larger ratio may cause retainer to guide clearance issues. or coil bind. you can call www.vincihighperformance.com or www.compcams.com to clear it up.

The SLP 1.85 rockers are good for a 15-20hp gain. They have one package that is just rockers and two others that include springs, retainers ect... This is simular to doing a mild cam swap without going inside the motor. You can save 10% off these and most other SLP products during our sale that runs through Sunday.
