Replaced LM resonator with an 18" chambered muffler...

Finally picked a muffler to replace that crappy LM resonator. Went with an 18" chambered muffler from Tourque tech exhaust. LOVE IT!!! Took away about all of the raspiness and the popping from the LM, but still is loud as hell under WOT. Cut down on interior noise dramatically also!!! Didnt realize how much loder the LM is in the car until I replaced it!! THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!!! This muffler keeps the 3 inch inside diameter all the way through and doesnt "bottleneck" like some other chambered mufflers Ive seen. I probally could have went with the 21" muffler and it would have quietened it down even more. I just wasnt sure if it would fit as good as the shorter one, but looking at it now, I think it would be OK. Ill try to get some sound clips and pics if anyone is interested. Costed me 86$$ shipped to my door in 1 day!! I think this is a great alternative to the LM!! If ya still like it loud but dont want the raspiness, this is the one!!

Not a bad idea I may have to try that.

Any loss of power with the new muffler? I am considering doing this as well.
Thanks

siince it's a straight through 3" design the loss would be too small to notice if any at all.

where did you get the muffler? i've never heard of that brand. Link?

eh, I don't know of it cuts it down that much.. its been a while though.. on a scale thru 1-10, 10 being the original loudmouth, its like a 8-9.... However, it does nicely "smooth" out the exhaust..

Re: Replaced LM resonator with an 18" chambered muffler...

i replaced my resonator with an 18" dynomax bullet. It's probably not as good as this chambered muffler but it took A LOT of the raspiness out without cutting down the volume at all (except maybe at idle, the idle is surprisingly quiet). The muffler was $40 bucks and most speed shops keep em in stock.

just another option for anyone else who wants to get rid of that piece of crap resonator.

Re: Replaced LM resonator with an 18" chambered muffler...

Got mine through tourquetechexh.com, or do a keyword search for "powerstick chambered mufflers" . First off, I replaced the resonator with a magnaflow inline muffler. Quietened it nicely, but took Id say 15 hp away. You could tell a BIG difference! Next, put the powerstick on and it has about the same hp levels as the LM...maybe a few less. Like someone else said, with the LM being a 10, then the chambered muffler would be an 8 or 9....But a lot mellower without all that raspiness!! Try it out!!

This thread is useless without sound clips.

the recording itself is a bit muffled, and doesn't have all the rumble and crispness of it.. its taken in the car, obviously, in a garage with the door open.

Ya the 30" is a big muffler, it pretty much took out the entire straight pipe after the y. but it is 3" all the way through. I wanted to try to get the gmmg chambered sound at nowhere near the price
