Post replace 99 camaro ss gears

Could someone tell me how to find out what my stock gears are in my 1999 camaro ss, and if anyone has changed them, how has it worked out? What exactly has to be done, and are there any important disadvantages besides gas mileage? (like anyone cares about that)

If its a A4 you have a 3.23, if M6 you have a 3.42.
