rear end girdles

ive got an 8.5 rear end and im gonna put a girdle on it. is there anything special that ill need to do? i know the kit comes with the girdle, arp bolts, and gasket, other than that it should be a direct replacement just like the 7 5/8" from what ive gathered. do the 7 5/8" have any special guidelines theat needs to be followed when doing this mod? thanks in advance.

I have the "T/A" girdle installed on my car, and before installation, back the 2 bearing studs all the way out so the inner part of the stud is flush with the inner part of the girdle. Being this piece is "cast aluminum", use a diagonal (sp) bolt pattern when installing. Once cover is installed, screw the 2 studs down until they make contact with the bearing caps (i.e. they will not turn anymore), torque the 2 nuts to 5 lbs (torque to nuts).

Hope this helps you out in some way.

stik6shift98;

The TA girdle is cast aluminum, so it will disapate heat faster, it is also deeper than the stock cover, and will hold more fluid.

The bearing studs are supposed to apply pressure on the bearing caps, to keep "floating" of the bearings under hard acceleration. I also had the bearing stud kit installed in place of the weaker bolts that hold on the bearing caps, studs will flex far less than the bolt counterpart uppon hard acceleration.

Girdle and stud kit in my rear with 4.10s and I've gotten 10K miles out of it. Definitely a good investment.

If you go ahead with the T/A diff cover, you may want to use some liquid teflon pipe sealant on the bolts that penetrate the cover, so as to prevent "unsightly dripping". I did, and no leaks to date.

Hope this helps
