Rear End
I am trying to help my boyfriend get some information on his 1998 Trans Am. We (I did help) took out the stock 273 rear end and installed a 342 rear end from a 2000 T.A. The car is done and it runs okay. We had a horrible whine in the 273 that the warranty company said was normal.
This is the problem and I looking to see if anyone has a solution for. On the 273 rear end we removed, the ABS sensor plugged into the top of the pumpkin housing. On the 342 rear end, that opening was not available. However, we took the ABS sensor from the 342 rear end which plugged into the calipers and installed it. When the car is started and you start driving, first the Low Trac light comes on. It quickly goes out and then the BRAKE light comes on followed by the ABS INOP light and these two stay on.
We are not sure if this needs reprogrammed at the computer for the car. We have disconnected the battery and reconnected but this has not solved the problem. We are pretty sure someone else may have run into this issue and I was wondering if you might have an answer or know of someone that might be able to help us.
I posted this question on the CFFB website and did get some information but they suggested posting it here. Thank you for taking the time and having the site available for people like myself. I appreciate it.

Hmmm. I don't have an answer for you on this. I haven't played with the gears.

oooo ... I've seen this before, but can't recall the solution. Sorry I can't help, but just hang in there because I know that somebody knows this.
Oh, and welcome to the board.

I swapped rears with an M6 car to get rid of my 2.73's also. The sensor on top of the pumpkin was the same. When I was looking for the rear I was told to ensure the donor car didn't have traction control (mine doesn't have it). That may be the problem. Sorry I don't have a solution, hopefully it's just a matter of re-arranging the sensors.

Same thing happened to me when we put a 2002 SS auto rear in the back of my bird...The abs sensor didn't hook up right...So because abs doesn't work the brake light comes on...The fix for me was getting back my rear and plugging it up right... Traction control i am not sure about as I don't have it neither did the SS we took it from...Not sure if it helps...
