Ratchet shifters
Ratchet shifters
I did a search on them to see if there were any made for F Bodies. In a post from LT1 tech somebody said there was one or there was one in production. Is this true? And if any of you guys have installed some sort of ratchet into your cars please tell me how it looks and how you did it because I want to do one.
A 4L60E (<-- E as in ELECTRONIC!) cannot work with a ratchet style shifter..
The transmission is controlled electronically not manually, thus it is not possible.. At least not in its true form.. Perhaps if you change the trany valve body you could but then you are really just useing the casing of the 4L60 and not the internals...
That maybe an option if they make a manual valve body for them.

obviously new to this trans? you can manually shift the 4L60e, the reason there isn't a shifter made for it is you don't have too. shift points should be set in the ecm, not by shifting it. i did hear though hurst might be making one as a cosmetic change. neither trans, 4L60 or 4L60E should be manually shifted with the exception of holding a lower gear in a burnout.
Yeah I was talking about doing manual valve bodies and a shifter because it has been done. I don't however see this as being easy just because it will be a pain to get a shifter in the car so I think I'm going to drop the idea of it.

Actually, this may sound odd, but i talked to some of the people at Summit, and there is supposedly a way to put a ratchet on a 4L60E. I think something to do with a shift kit, i forgot which one, and there is a certain shifter, i think it is the hammer by b&m...?
Pardon my ignorance, (I've never looked that closely at a 4l60E, as my car came with the non-e version), but I was under the impression that the shifter and linkage to the 4L60e's were still mechanical, and only some of the internal tranny operation was electronic/computer controlled. If that's the case then any number of ratchet shifters could work with a little modification of the center console. If that's not the case, then educate me... I'd like to know
