Race vs. Emissions?
Re: Race vs. Emissions?
The choice is up to you. Before I got headers I had my computer tuned. My tuner (Ed Wright of Tulsa Ok) asked me if I was ever wanting to get rid of my EGR pump. This is a pump mounted on the passenger side block that has a hose that goes into the intake manifold. This was only used in the 98-00 LS1's i think. I have a 99 and didnt want the EGR there anymore because it is really worthless and is UGLY. Sooo to anwer your question if you have the EGR pump and dont plan on having it turned off and removed then you will want the Emissions because the headers will have a place for them to mount on. I had mine turned off and I ordered emissions by mistake. Im sure someone else can explain this better but thats about as good as I can do. ---- I just saw you have a stock engine bay and if I were you I would order the emissions just to be safe. If you later have the EGR pump taken out then you can have block off plates that cover them up, a guy in TX makes some. If you have any questions email me, my car was where yours was a year ago and now im getting low to mid 12's in the quarter. Also I live in OKla and there is no emission testing of cars anymore, but if your state does go emissions to keep yourself safe. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/647557 AS for preformance, nah. Taking off the EGR really doesnt add or take away from HP, it takes a little weight off, but really not much preformance difference. So your going to get about the same from RACE or EMISSION LT headers. Hope this helps.

Re: Race vs. Emissions?
emissions means it has the hookups for air and egr.... if you are in a emissions controlled city such as california, then you should buy emissions style headers.
If you are not then jst buy race headers which are without the hook up for air and egr... this will free up space, make your car a few pounds lighter, and it will make your car throw a code. so just take it to the place you have them installed by and have the code deleted, or just keep the code and drive happy

Re: Race vs. Emissions?
Thanks a lot for the insight. How hard is it to remove the EGR and what all comes off when I remove the system? By the way I don't have to worry about emissions, so I would go with the race versions.
Re: Race vs. Emissions?
The pump is easy to take off. There are 2 bolts that hold it to the block, two under it and 2 on each of the exhaust manifold. Oh and one on the intake manifold. Once you get the race LTs those holes wont be there, but there is a hole you have to plug. This is the one that is on the intake manifold. here is a guy on ebay that is selling them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-C...spagenameZWDVW Keep in mind you will throw a light if you dont have the codes deleted. Let me know if you need anything else.
Re: Race vs. Emissions?
What comes off when you get Race LTs: EGR Pump, and the things that are mounted on the existing exhaust manifolds (stock headers). What those things do is reuse and recirculation some gas back through the exhaust. Hints the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) There are black hoses that come off these and connect around the back of the intake manifold near the firewall. Back there you can unhook the black hose. (sounds hard but is very easy) You don’t have to do that till you get the race LTs bc they will have no place to be bolted to. I can send you pictures of this if you need it.
