Cool Quick power add on

I had to get rid of my 72 RS Camaro do to an accident. I bought a 2000 Z28 conv. I have read about the Granatelli MAF sensor and Cold air lid. How much will this really help and what other quick add ons can give me a little more hp.

ps.. this is my first time on this site

Yeah, don't get the MAF until you have a few more bolt ons, or you are going to go for a complete intake swap. The lid should be the very first mod. All lids are nearly exactly the same so you can get the cheapest you can find.

If your going to get a MAF, don't get the Granatelli, unless it's the inexpensive one. The other is way overpriced. Or you can get the SLP or the Z06, there are pretty much the same.

Sub-frame connectors are always good, but arent bolt in unless you get crappy ones You really should get a cat-back exhaust system first, if you dont already have one.

If you want more than just a lid

Most lids will get you between 10-15 hp increase. I am sold on the K&N FIPK. Look at my dyno numbers in my sig to see what I mean. The FIPK was the only engine mod.

I'd have to agree with all of the modifications suggested in this thread. I've done all of them, with the exception of the MAF (because I do not have enough bolt on's to worry about it).

You can actually port the maf and remove the screen and see some gains for free. Just check out installuniversity.com

You cant argue with the fact that no screen means less restriction meaning more power, and if its free I dont see why not. Also go with the FIPK. Its really far better than a lid. I got it and love it. Cutout is a must. Dont waste your time on a catback. Youll get more power and quality sound out of a $30 cutout than you will with a $500 catback.

That's a good point. I descreened my MAF between back to back runs at the track, and gained approximately 1/2 MPH. It's a minimal difference, but it's free. I also trimmed my EGR tube. But, as everyone knows...the '01-02 models don't have them.

I'm also a big fan of suspension mods. Make sure the car can handle the power it already has, before making it more powerful.

Talking

Get a lid and a cheap paper filter like a Fram. Cut the airbox bottom (FRA mod). Cutout is cheap, but doesn't sound all that good. Some good, but more expensive mods include (try to find used or sale items):
ASP pulley $200
LS6 intake $300
Headers (Jet-hot or MACs) $600
TNT nitrous kit $600
Good luck!

I just took the air cleaner assembly apart to look at it. Why do they start out with it so restricted? The FIPK($299) looks like a 26hp increase according to the dyno report from Mister Will. The lid(Whisper induction lid w/sure fit seal and K&N breather$145) make a 10 -15hp. Whats a K&N breather?

The FIPK is CARB certified and has a sticker to attach. CARB requirements are some of the most strict anywhere. The cats and O2 sensors can not be moved from their original positions. That is one of the reasons I choose it. I couldn't have been happier with the results
