Quick corvette question
Quick corvette question
I'm looking into buying a 2001 Z06 with 26,000 miles on it bone stock. Before I buy I would like to be sure I know what it's got so I know what I should be looking for when buying profomance parts for it. From what I've read it has the Ls6 engine compaired to the Ls2 that I though it had. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Also and ideas on good upgrades, different intake system/ exhaust system? After the mods I plan to have it dyno tuned and I'm looking for around 430-450 hp and 450+ tq at the rear wheels. Also the hard part, I have to pass CA smog
.

Yes, you have the LS6 which is a great engine.
F14 (maybe F14 High Lift if the PTV clearance is ok)
Longtubes
And you will be close to that HP. I think Kraest was around 415rwhp with the LS1 heads and the F14 High Lift Cam (Futral).
Although, I doubt that will pass SMOG in CA!
Best bet to get that power and pass smog would be a Procharger. (probably not what you wanted to hear).
But better let some of the other guys chime in that have more experience making power w/ CA emission...

01 LSx have weak rings. I would expect it to start smoking after a while.
I had an 01 that smoked after a while and my buddy had an 01 that smoked after a while. At first glance, we thought the problem to be related to mods/tuning, but it seems that lots of 01 cars have this problem, so it can be surmised that the problem is weak rings made worse by the crappy PCV system. (on an LS6 motor, you don't need to worry about a crappy PCV system)
With that being said, to pass smog/strict CA emissions, the only good option out there is to go forced induction. Sure, you can make 430-450 rwhp on a heads/cam build, but it wouldn't pass smog.

The LS6 and LS2 are quite different. The LS6 is basically a LS1 with better heads and intake.
To be short, without forced induction you aren't going to make you power expectations. With ported heads, LTs, an LS6 manifold (already has it), a ported TB, and a cheater cam you should make between 405-415 RWHP with a M6 and a good dyno tune. If you can'tget away with the LTs figure about 15-20 RWHP less. .
