Everything I've seen says 1 qt per 3000 is
normal. I don't think there is a factual basis
on either standpoint but this is the first I've heard
of 1/1000 is normal. I know there is a GM service
tolerance concerning oil consumption as to what is
normal.

I think alot of it has to due with how the car was
broken in. Beat it up early, the rings don't set right
and you burn more. Thats something I've been told
is a sign of how a car was treated buy a previous owner.
YEAH, my car uses 0 oil in 3k miles, the use of breathers may contribute to oil loss.

No piston slap. Some oil consumption, but nothing to freak out about. What am I going to do replace the rings, pistons, entire engine for a quart every 3000 miles.

Bought the car new in '98. It is a daily driver with a number of 500+ mile road trips. The car has over 60,000 miles. The car is holding up better than I expected. I plan on keeping it awhile.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

wow! 300,000 miles? I love it!

Wow, someone mentioned that the GM targeted life for the LS1 is 300,000 miles. That's the kind of stuff I like to hear. I'm going to look forward to having fun for a long, long time.
