Question on Zo6 clutch?

I have an 01 SS and I am thinking on putting in a Zo6 clutch. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about this clutch package? Also does anyone know if it bolts right in. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Roy

Yep, I had my local GM parts guy look it up for me. The same part numbers on '01-'02 Z28 or SS is in the '01-'03 Vettes. So you would be putting the same clutch package in. Later>>>>>

You're absolutely right. All 01'-02's got the "ZO6 clutch" aka "LS6 clutch, whichever you'd like to call it. The only time I would use one is if I was gonna be a purely mild bolt-on car, and nothing else. These clutches can barely take the power of a stock motor, much less a modified one. If you want a good clutch that can hold all the power you can throw at it, look no further than the RAM 402/910 set-up.

Clutch

I have a buddy at the shop tell me about some clutches, don't go GM because some might be overpriced and you can find better stuff out there. If you looking for street strip don't put anything higher then Kevlar, Ceramic....I picked out the Dual Friction clutch from Centerforce and its pretty close to being an on off button but once it breaks in it should get a little easier. the clutch is only like close to $500 bucks and then the local shop here (www.ls1speed.com) has to be the best shop in the Chicago area does the work for like $200 bucks for install and everything. You will find the better deals at the aftermarket shops.....If you liked the Z06 clutch, which is highly ceramic...it makes very little dust but when you press on it and it gets hot, you will notice typical GM power loss, it won't grab well at all.....

Later,
Chris

Sorry, you're absolutely wrong -- no flame intended. I was under the same impression. Come to find out that we ('01-'02 cars) have the hydro portions but NOT the actual disks. Found this out when some shop named LPE wanted to 'UPGRADE' my '01 to the Z06 after their inspection revealed my stock one was **** after 8500mi !! They also added, it was more than capable of handling 440 horsies going into my car . I will concure, however, that for street driving it is really a great clutch and that for the strip, there are better.

For what its worth, I inquired about aftermarket clutches (McCleod, Ram, Spec, etc) that could be installed instead and apparently THEY (LPE) had too many customer complaints (mainly chattering) and other various warranty issues.

Didn't I just read in the latest GMHTP magazine that the upgrade clutch being offered by SLP for LS1 cars comes in the 02 cars from the factory? Maybe it is a better alternative than the Z06 clutch? Anyone else remember reading this story?

Personally, I doubt anything SLP offers is a 'better' alternative. Again, the Z06 is not a 'bad' clutch! For the street, it's really nice and you can often find deals on them through the various GM sponsors cheaper than most of the aftermarket ones....for those on a 'budget' like myself ....
