Question on ported TB

Upon installing my SLP Airlid that arrived after work today, I discovered that my "one owner, stock" 99 Z28 I bought last month isn't so "stock". The previous owner had done the free ram air mod and made a terrible attempt at porting the throttle body. The TB looks more or less scratched in a couple of areas, mainly the bottom center section. My question is, can I mess it up if I go back and try to "re-port" the TB, but take my time to do it evenly and cleaner? From what I see, as long as I don't take off too much it should be fine, but I want some confirmation before I take a chance. Thanks in advance.

Re: Question on ported TB

Sure you can go in and touch it up. Keep in mind surface finish is NOT important at all. A polished finish is not necessary for good flow. Just knock down the lip close to the blade, but don't mess up the sealing surface where the blade rides.

Re: Question on ported TB

Thanks for the response. It's one of those things that's not really hurting anything I guess, but I saw it, and now I gotta fix it lol. I hate when people half-@$$ things. I don't, and I don't want my car to make it look like I do. I'm not gonna be in a big hurry or anything, but I'd like to clean it up a bit. He just scarred the inside of the tb pretty much, and the MAF housing, and left little tiny nicks in the metal. Not the end of the world, but I don't like it.

Re: Question on ported TB

Yeah, i did home porting on mine and put a buffer to it to smooth all of it out. Its very smooth to the touch, but its a bit uneven in places, so it doesnt have the prettest reflection:

Its kinda hte same thing with my car. I thought I was buying an unmolested car.. When I started to do all the free mods I found out that every one had been done, including !CAGS and cutting te egr tube. Then after getting in the trunk for the 30th time i found a fuel shutoff valve inderneath where the cd changer would be.
