Question on LS1 Pacesetter/ Cat Y Pipe

http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=189

Anyone running these catted y pipes with there pacesetters? Any problems running these on lowered cars? I heard awhile back that the old version sat really bad and the new ones being sold sit very snug. Any comments?

In my experience, Y-pipes on F-bodies will always have a slight clearance problem especially if the car is lowered.

A coworker of mine recently put on some Jet-Hot long tubes, which are based off the old Grotyohann headers, like the Pacesetter and Hookers. His y-pipe required A LOT of work to get it to fit right, and it still rattled on the floorboard!

I don't unsderstand this. I put a set of JetHots with y-pipe on a 98
Z and they fit perfect. You could put your finger in between any part of the y and the body. Could be installation technique, I leave everything loose untill it's all installed then start tightening up from the front to the rear.

I have the Jet Hot headers and Jet Hot Y-pipe on my car, and nothing hit the floor. I had a pair of cats welded in after the fact and still nothing touched .

I didn't quite like that the Y-pipe was in 4 separate pieces that had to be "assembled" in place, but it worked .

Did you use the TSP pipe in question? My local speed shop uses a LOT of TSP stuff, but refuses to use their y-pipes for this very reason. They usually recommend a custom y-pipe - it also helps that they have an excellent chassis fabricator close by that does awesome exhaust work.

His is a very low mileage 01 Hawk on stock motor mounts. I as well as several other people tried everything to make that pipe fit - nothing worked. We ended up hose clamping some EGR hose between the pipe and body.

Why would you do that?? No I installled the JetHot Y on the JetHot headers. I wouldn't even attempt to use a Y that wasn't the same brand as the headers.

Hi, I have this same catted y-pipe and the Hooker catback along with the pacesetter headers and I have zero problems with it's fitment. I also installed prothane motor mounts while I had everything off. What I did when I installed everything was I left everything loose on the y-pipe so I could make any adjustments if needed and then I tightened the supplied clamps just tight enough to keep it together and I took it to my local muffler shop and had all the joints welded. I don't have to worry about leaks or clamps hanging to low, it looks very good and the best part is I can take off and re-install it without issues. I can't speak for the other people who may have had problems with it , but I think alot of problems people have is due to rushing to install and poor workmanship.

I have this same setup you speak of. I am not lowered but can tell you shouldn't have too much of an issue there. The place I went to get them installed said it was the easiest header install they have ever done and this place specializes in Camaro's and Vette's. Dont hesitate in buying this setup, you will be very happy.

I'm running the TSP off road y-pipe. It wouldn't go together worth a crap. I had to weld/cut on it to get it to remotely fit.

But once you get it together it tucks up very nicely. I don't drag the pipe on the ground and as long as you use a peice of rubber between the pipe and the car it won't bang.

Thumbs down

That y-pipe is JUNK.

Mine is behind my Pacesetters and I had a GM Master Tech. who knows GM performance vehicles well install mine and just could not get it to fit right and told me it was bad fabrication. The thing scraped and grinded like crazy.

The worst part was TSP told me it was normal and I said nothing normal sounds like that. They did nothing for me except give me bad customer service.

I had a custom exhaust shop handle this and the guy had to cut out pieces of my y-pipe and make custom pieces and it no longer bangs.

I would steer clear of that y-pipe, spend a little more money and buy a premium one. The banging will drive you nuts and TSP won't want to help you.

Any suggestions on a catted y-pipe that will work with long tube headers? I just want something that I can bolt up at home. And I need the cats.
