question about tires

I used to have the SS tires/rims on my car (275/40/zr17) and recently i had to go back to the stock rims and tires. after the car was aligned and all the car still seems to pull somewhat and the tires seem to be wearing wrong around the outside edge. I took it back to them today to have them check the alignment and i was told that my problem was simply that i had the bigger tires on there before and they put added stress on bushings and such and when i put the stock tire size back on there that it released this stress and not there is a little play and unless i can find the problem in the suspention it won't be fixed. Is this true or a bunch of ? Thanks as always, Jason

Tire wear on the outside edge is usually caused by too much positive toe, i.e. your tire is pointing too much to the center of the car.

I think I'll call at least a partial on the explanation you have been given. Since I am not a professional on car alignments it might have some truth behind it, but I think they were just too lazy to do anything.

Take your car to another shop (preferrably an independent shop, not a franchised store...) and have them check the alignment for you. Remember to ask them to give you the print out before and after any adjustments are made.

Good luck!

Actually, outer tire wear can also be caused by not enough negative camber. This is negative camber as viewed from the front: /----\, and this is positive camber \----/. Can you see why positive camber wears the outside of the tire.

But, your alignment guy is a moron. Their inabilty to use an alignment rack has nothing to do with the fact that you had "bigger" tires on there. 275/40/17's come stock on the SS/WS6, and I have ran 315's on all four corners with no problem getting it aligned. I would bite the bullit and find a new alignment shop, cause this one is just going to keep jerking your chain.
