Question about LE1/427

I want to buy a 4th gen. camaro with the 427 engine. Is that the LE1 or is there another name for it? I know they are rare, but does anyone know of any for sale and how much do they go for? I heard $90K was new sticker. What options were available if any. I have a 01 ss, what would the difference be besides the upgraded engine. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the ZL1?

Because from what I remember the 1LE package was just a suspension upgrade (correct me if I'm wrong)

I'm sure what you are talking about is the ZL1 built by GMMG. If you want to learn more about it read this . The 1LE is a suspension package.

I read the article on this website about the pumped up ls1 but the car I'm inquiring about has a 427 motor. Something about the "r" racing motor used by the c5 vette.

Yeah, the 427 came with the phase III option for another 23,000. Here is an article done by Hot Rod magazine if you want a full write-up. http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicl...427/index.html

Hey thanks for the two links...I like the red 427 but for $135,000?! Has anyone else seen any prices for the ZL1 427?

Are these cars going to be collectors items in 40 years like the yenkos and copos or should I just drop a 427 into mine and save the money?

You can have a better 427 put in your car for FAR less than that. Probablly around 15k installed.

I think they may be collector cars in the future, but I dont see them being as collectable as the origional zl1 copo 9560.

I agree, the collectability of the 4th gen ZL1 is questionable. But looking at how much of a premium the resales are going for, there must be a strong demand for them. But for $135,000 I could get a 99 diablo roadster. But I still want a 427 in my camaro. $15K is reasonable for that kind of power increase.

The motor used in the racing C5 is the C5R, the 427 uses the C5R block which I hear goes for around $6,000, for the block itself.

You can get the whole package on a C5R block from Lingenfelter for 27K. As I understand it the late Mr. Lingenfelter knew a few things about building engines.
