Question about exhaust
Question about exhaust
First off, I'll explain my setup. As I'm sure everybody knows, our babies have dual cats. I have 2 pipes, one out of each cat and they run all the way to the back, no mufflers. Each pipe is completely seperate from the other. Needless to say, she is LOUD with a bit of "crackle" when I'm not on the throttle. I like the "crackle" personally.
I have been considering longtube headers, and the exhaust would need to be redone for the most part. And as loud as it now, it would probably be even louder. I don't know if I want it any louder, it's on the verge of obnoxious now.
So here is my question. Does anybody have any experience with somesort of crossover, like an X-pipe? From what I understand, it would smooth out my exhaust tone making it more "even". Is this a correct assumption? Also, would an X-pipe benefit me in the never ending pursuit of more HP?
Any ideas or tips are appreciated, thanks

A crossover cuts your exhaust pulses/frequency in half. Basicly it brings a dual exhaust back to the sound of a single exhaust.
They are known to add a slight bit of torque to an engine, but no hp.
Personally, I would add a Dynomax race bullet in each pipe and let it be rather than revert to the sound of single exhaust after I went through all the trouble to have duals custom made.

Hey Thunder I have a few questions about your duals;
1) How much did you pay to have it done?
2) Are you using the stock cats that came with the car?
3) Do your pipes dump at the axle or do they go all the way back?
4) And if they do go all the way back how did you get the driver side pipe over the axle?
I just bought a dynomax bullet for a dynomouth setup, however, if I can have 2 pipes out the back for duals (without a lot of trouble) and use 2 dynomax muffs for both sides I would do that instead. Thanks

To answer your questions, I paid $360 parts and labor. I thought that was a good price, especially considering included in that price was the tips...which were $60 a piece.
Yes, I am using the stock cats. I asked the guy that did the exhaust work if I should use "high flow" cats, and his reply was that the stock cats flowed well enough that new ones would be a waste.
Both pipes run all the way back. Both pipes run on the passenger side of the drive-shaft. They did it this way because there are some wires that run along the body on the driver side of the drive-shaft. Even though these wires are wrapped in a metal protectant, they thought that maybe the heat from the exhaust pipes could be harmful to the wires...hey, they're the experts right. So they both run along the driveshaft unitil they come to the rear axle. Okay, decision time. Did I want them to take the time to fit the pipes over the axle (tight fit) or was I okay with them running underneath the axle. Well, I would of had to wait longer and pay more for them to take the time to fit them perfectly over the limited space above the rear axle, so I went with the "underneath" setup. Immediately after the rear axle, the driver side pipe curves in that direction and they exit under the fender.
Well, that's the setup, let me know if you have any other questions..always glad to help

If he doesn't have any pics, I have pics of an nearly identical set-up.
No cats though, 2.5" pipes over the right and then to each side on the rear with short bullets at the end just before the tips.
If you want the pics just email me from my sig.
