Question about Corsa - terrible rattling - help please!
I've had my Corsa on my Z for almost a year now - when I had it put on by a friend who owns a shop, he had to modify one of the brackets that held up the exhaust. It was the one right near the right rear tire. He had to drill two new holes in it - I didnt have a problem until now. I had to get the car inspected the other day and when I got it back a terrible rattle was coming from the rear of my car - brought it back to the place, this time I stood there to watch them put it on the lift. It seems that the bolt fell back into the original holes.
Question: how much space is between the exhaust pipe before the muffler (I-pipe) and the cross-member in the right rear of the car - with the rattling - it seemed that it was less than 1/16th of an inch and the pipe was shiny (i.e. it was rubbing). Now reverting back to the drilled holes (modified bracket) it is about 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch distance. The rattling seems to have stopped - but what a coincience that it happened after I got it inspected - I was really pissed that they did something to it. But does anyone know how far this space should be.
Thanks in advance.

No - this is not the muffler - this is a clanging of metal on metal - no good sound at all. It is the pipe hitting the rear cross member - not inside the muffler. How much clearance should there be. This noise only happens at certain RPMs - very annoying.
You should not have had to modify anything. I installed mine on my own and the first time I did not get it quite right and it did rattle at stoplights, but then I saw the probelm loosend the clamps re-adjusted it and now it's all good!
Check the clearences over the drive line and make sure all the pipes are seated inside each other all the way. That was most of my probelm. I used some WD-40 and a rubber mallet to get them in all the way.
