question for A4 LS1 people

What is a good combo for an A4 LS1? My buddy just bought a 99 Z-28 and is wondering what to go with. What kind of times are you guys running?

Question Not sure I understand what you mean by "combo" ...

My (best) times are in the sig.

Stock with the T/A I think I was around 13.77 or so.

A lot has to do with driving ability - mine ain't so hot !!

Nittos are a good start, and w/ an A4 a stall converter can reduce 1/4 mile time by .4 - .5 seconds depending upon the ratio & driver ability.

Later !

Britt

By combo, I mean what things should I tell him to buy that work well together to make his car run good on the motor. I just wanted to feel out what you guys have and what kind of times youre running with the mods.

Stock ran 13.60, but the track I ran at had a bad reputation for being slow. Plus my 60 ft was 2.02.

With 3.23 gears, I run mid 12's (12.55-12.6) really with only a Direct Flo lid, UD crank pulley, Nitto-555R and a SY3500. The convertor is the biggest bonus. Shaves 5 tenths.

ChriSS knows his ****...

...just with his few mods and converter he's almost kickin the **** out of heavy modded LT1's up here in the North West area. I can't wait to get my converter, although I just spent a crap load of money on FLP's. I think I went a little backwards on this one, should of gotten the converter first.

...oh well, soon.

Yeah i kinda started the wrong way too. Right now im runnin 13.18@107 on street tires 2.2 60's still killin me, for street tires at kcir those are pretty good times its a slippery track. Next is a converter and slicks w/ ftra expect to see a 12.45/12.55's.

If your buddy has 2.73 gears, get a torque converter and a set of gears (3.42 or 3.73).

If he has 3.23 gears, he'll do well with just a converter.

As for other mods........air lid and cat-back exhaust are pretty good.

Question

OK, quick question............still related to A4 stuff:

With 2.73's and stock engine, I find that I cross the 1/4 mile mark right at the top of 2nd gear, or just into 3rd, so for any of the guys with either 3.23's/3.42's/3.73's, in what gear (I'm assuming 3rd), and at what RPM do you cross the line at??? (with relatively "stock" engines)??

IMO, you'd want to be crossing the line with the engine right at the top of its power peak, right?? Even with 2.73's, maybe a torque converter would help since the car would run "quicker", and then be in the power band at the top of 2nd??

Any opinions/thoughts/experience would be great --- which gears put the engine around ~5000 - 5500 RPM at the 1/4 mile mark???

THX

Unless you're only trapping in the 92-95mph range, you'll be in 3rd gear with 2.73's about 200-300 feet before you cross the line.

I trap 103 and my car shifts to 3rd a good 2 seconds before the traps.

With regard to what gears you want so that you'll end near redline, it all depends on what your trap speeds are. ET doesn't matter. If you trap in the 118-120 range and were running a stock size tire, you'd probably want 3.73's because you'd be near redline in 3rd gear (5700rpm). If you trapped in the high 90's you'd probably want 2.73's because you'd still be in 2nd gear.

You've got an A4 with 3.73's, trap around 105 and are near the top of 3rd when you cross the traps???

The gear program I referenced says that at 6200rpm in 3rd gear (1:1 ratio) with a 245/55/16 tire that you'd be going 132mph. Is it wrong?

With car in sig, I ran 13.6 @ 102 on a disgustingly hot and humid day. I was on the gas in D all the way down the 1320. 60' was 2.073 on street tires. Track was well prepped. After light mods, I'd get a converter and beef up the trans.
