Question QTP LT Headers + Y-Pipe+passing emissions...

I'm definitely ordering the QTP LT Headers. What I'm confused about is which y-pipe to get. I was thinking if my car doesn't need to be emissions tested for another couple of years (I'm assuming) since my car is new, that I would just get the off-road y-pipe and when I have to be tested for emissions, I'll have to order a y with cats.

What are my options?? I mean I definitely want QTP LTs, but is there an aftermarket y with cats that would fit my setup and pass the sniffer????

If it isn't going to pass the sniffer than whats the point???

Will I have to worry about cops???

QTP is offering a Y with RT cats in it.......They flow really well and will help you pass emissions.......I don't think you'll lose too much in HP, but you will lose some drone noise

Thats the setup I am going with once Uncle Sam sends me my money

u have obd2 which means u dont get the sniffer they hook your car up to the computer and see if it gives it any codes so you wouldnt need cats.....unless they do a spot check.....but your car is 2002 anyway so you have a while until emissions

Hey mysteryz28, where in illinois are you from? There's a bunch of us around the naperville area that get together all the time. If you live around we should meet up sometime.

I was that guy(I PM'ed you on LS1.com). It's your car, so do what you want. But I'm telling you, your GMMG exhaust will get VERY raspy in the mid rpm's and sound a lot more unrefined throughout the whole rev-range without cats. Not quite as bad as a Borla or LM, but it is still very noticeable. Trust me, I've heard em' all.

FYI, any "single" exhaust set-up without cats will sound raspy on an LS1. Some systems just sound worse than others this way. With cats, it's a non-issue. I don't see what's so confusing about it?

I will say if you to go with one of the "mufflerless" exhausts, the GmmG is a little less raspy than the loudmouth.

I honestly don't know Jonathan. Catylitic y-pipes are quite a bit more expensive than catless y-pipes though. Last I heard, QTP didn't even have a Y w/cats(although that was a while ago).

Are you only stuck on the QTP's? They are very good headers, but for instance JetHot has a GP right now for COATED longtubes that are $511 shipped to your door(awesome price). You could then purchase some good Carsound highflow cats(94009) for $65 each and have them welded into a 2.5 or 3" custom Y-pipe that you would have to have made. I called FLP down in Naperville and they said they'd make a quality 3" custom Y w/cats welded in for $350 straight-up. So add up the total cost which = $1,000 flat for some good LT's, Carsound cats, and a 3" custom Y-pipe. Very good price IMO for that set-up compared to the other LT's that come with cats which are like $200-$300 more on average. But again, I don't know much about the QTP's or their pricing. Either way, the extra money spent for cats will be worth it.

You can still go without cats if you want to save some $$$, but you'll probably hate the sound. And you'll have to deal with emissions too.
