Putting a LS1 into a 93 - 97.

Is it possible to "swap" a LS1 motor into a 93 - 97 RS F-Body? I am toying with the idea of putting a LS1 into a RS V6 camaro. I think this will be a fun project but I want to make sure it will work first. I have been away from the boards for a while now and im not too sure if this has been done. Im sure somewhere along the line it has been done. Any info would be great and suggestions are more then welcome. I only have about 8k to work with so I am hoping to buy a RS with a blown motor for a cheap price and then buy the motor and start the fun. Well what do you guys think and is it possible. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Yes it is possible.
Evertything on a 93 ~ 97 is swappable with 98+, and vice versa...

Just a thought here... Wouldn't it be smarter to buy a early LS1 car with the money instaed of going the route you're suggesting? I have seen a few 98 ~ 99 LS1 cars going dirt cheap here lately. If you want the 93 ~ 97 front end, you can swap it onto the LS1 car, the only difference I know of is the hood will need swapped to an aftermarket piece to clear the air box, unless you fab up something different.

Yeah I have looked at them here for a while. Only thing is most of the cars are halfway across the country. I would like another project plus im not exactly sure what motor I am going to put in it. It will most likely be a LS1. I think the only other parts I will have to change are the radiator, motor mounts and computer. At least thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Im sure other things will pop up.

There are alot of benefits, IMHO, of starting with an LS1 car, and modifying it. Remember there is more than just a motor to the 98+ car vs 93 ~ 97.
Plus this swap will nickel and dime you to death unless you buy an LS1 car that has been totalled, and swap parts. You'll want the Motor/Transmission, computer, gas tank, fuel pump, and also the brakes... (etc...)

Re: Putting a LS1 into a 93 - 97.

So are you guys suggesting a 98+ body or an actual LS1 car? I really wanted to put this in a 93 - 97 but if it is going to be that much of a P.I.T.A. ill reconsider...

most people will tell you just get the car with the engine already in it.. it is a huge pita... but hey, some people dont have the funds to throw at projects..
i do think you will be happier with a car already built and done..

Just my opinion but it isn't very smart to go throught the hassle of putting a v8 in a car that already comes with a v8 as an option. GM already went throught the time and effort to put a v8 in these cars. If you're going to spend the time and money on a project...put a ls1 in something that isn't supposed to have one. That's cool! Good luck though.

Re: Putting a LS1 into a 93 - 97.

At least im not the only one with this train of thought... I dont have a crazy amount of cash to play with. I do have a 6 month old baby at home. What are some of the things I would have to change/modify if I were to put an LS1 into a 93 - 97 RS? I figured motor mounts, radiator, suspension maybe, someone earlier said fuel tank and pump, brakes (why I dont know). What else am I looking at. Most likely if I do get a RS it will be auto so I can just get an auto LS1. I think the tranny should be ok not too sure though. Anything else that I will HAVE to change? Just an idea of parts so I can figure out a budget... Thx

Oh yeah, will I need a whole new exhaust? Most likely right... Dam I should have never sold my Z when the baby came. I would not get these crazy ideas for projects.....

Re: Putting a LS1 into a 93 - 97.

Going from an RS to LS1 is even worse. A RS is a 3400 (60* V6) in those years. I'm not sure the tans would work. The suspension would definately be different among many other things.
