Problem w/ free ram air mod...rad. support...?

Hey all,

I was doing the free mods tonight, and ran across an issue that really confused me. I was taking off all the air filter stuff, ect. and came down to the rad. support. I could not figure how to get this out. I went underneath and took out some plastic screws, and 2 10 mm bolts, but it was the bottom piece of the support. The top piece seems to be secured by to screws or something on the sides. Down beside the radiator.

How did yall get it out? Is there something that I looked over? I had no problem w/ any of the other mods, and feel kinda dumb, like there was something simple I wasn't doing. But I couldn't figure it out.

I hope to get an answer, so I can fix it when I put my lid on Thurs.

Thanks

There is no reason to take out the hood latch brace. The SSRA is designed to fit around it, if you get this kit. All other kits are one piece boxes that stop above it. Leave this in for the support it gives you. The SSRA is a two piece kit. The bottom box slides up into the top box from the bottom. Reliefs are cut into the bottom box to accommodate the brace.

What are you talking about?

I am talking about the radiator support that I couldn't get out to cut like the rest of the stuff.

I re-read your post and I believe you're talking about the radiator shrouds. In the front right above the windshield wiper fluid you'll see two white plastic doo hickeys. You need to seperate them by just pulling these apart. Next on the sides by the radiator are more of these connectors. You just got to stick you're hand in there and force them apart. There tough to seperate. Next pull out the bottom one

Yeah, ya got me now I pulled apart the white doo hickeys
And I did pull out the bottom piece! That is why I was confused, I thought I had won, but after I started looking at it, I was like Wrong piece.

So, I worked w/ it, and I could NOT get those on the sides of the radiator. The ones you say are tough. I couldn't get my hand in there really well. Do I just pull forward? I wish I could get the plastic screws from behind the piece. That would be easier.

Any suggestions?? Thanks

Angela, the ones on the radiator are really tough. You have to pull them forward. Just keep applying as much pressure as you can. It kind of seems like a time thing. All of a sudden they'll just pop off. Just get your hand behind them and pull forward.

Thanks! At least I know now that I wasn't crazy. They made it look so easy in the GMHTP mag, and didn't mention A THING about
any of that. Same w/ ls1.com mod install guide!

I will try again when I get my lid

I'm curious about that part on the radiator. After the two sections are cut out, wouldnt that be enough on its own to have more airflow? the piece for the radiator would just let that hot air from the radiator come through.

I tried for a long time to get that radiator shield out. In the end, I simply cut the opening out with a box cutter. Took about a minute.

There's a small slit in the shroud. I cut down at the ends to where the shroud begins to angle down, then I cut across. It's probably one inch in height times however long the slit is.

Do you really have to cut that piece? wouldnt it be fine with just cutting out the two sections?

No, you don't have to. It just seemed restrictive, so I cut it out. The magazine I had said to do so, as well.
