Re: pro 5.0 shifter questions

Skip shift is electrical. You would need a resistor (cheap way) or a harness (expensive way) to disable.

The Factory Hurst is different than the Aftermarket Hurst.
Differences are that the Aftermarket Hurst has a bend in the handle that angles it towards the driver. I did not like that feature at all. Factory Hurst (what came with my car) is straight with just a tad bit shorter throw than stock.

Pro 5.0 is a great shifter. It would be the one I would swap to if I were going to get a different shifter. Has a good solid feel and I would just say, take your time in adjusting it so its spot on.

I bought my car new in 8/02 and to this day have never really disliked the skipshift. My point is that, when its enabled, its usually because your RPMs are too low. Right? So why would it matter what gear you are going into if its better on your gas... If I am wanting to romp on it, my RPMs are well past the 2K they need to be to disable the feature.

Re: pro 5.0 shifter questions

I had a Pro 5.0 in both of my GTs and currently have one in my Z28. Great shifter!

Re: pro 5.0 shifter questions

The Pro 5.0 was designed for the Mustang 5.0

I have the stock upgraded Hurst shifter. It is a tight shifting shifter as good
as any after market shifter. ( So tested at Capital raceway by me with no missed shifts on the way to a 12.88 second 1/4 mile... )

I ordered my 2002 SS in 10/2001. I upgraded the shifter to the Hurst model.

Glad I did.

Buy the Hurst model.

Good luck!

Pro 5.0 makes shifters for f-bodies also. Thats like claiming SLP is GM only. Have you seen all the Stang crap they carry now?

ALL 98 up SS's come with hurst shifters. In stock form, they're better than the stock Z shifter, but not anywhere near as good as an aftermarket shifter.

I had the stock Hurst w/a short stick. Yes, it shifted tight like this, but gears could still be missed. Shifting was nowhere near as easy as with the 5.0. The 5.0 will push the stick over to 3rd where as the stock Hurst didn't. The 5.0 doesn't need a short stick because you can easily shorten the stick it comes with. The 5.0 also has positive stops where as the stock hurst does not.

Now Hurst does make a nice aftermarket shifter that was an option IIRC, but if your car isn't so equipped then the 5.0 is a good although more expensive choice.

I just put a B and M Ripper in mine, and love it. Might look into it as well. It also has the stops.

Hurst does not make the Pro 5.0 shifter..
Thats two seperate companies there..

Shifter options:
Factory Standard - this is the stick with the round shift ball on top.
Hurst - 2 possible choices. 1 is from the factory the other is aftermarket. The factory stick is straight and has a shift **** with an "H" on it.. The aftermarket stick has a bend on the shaft that angles the stick towards the driver. You may or maynot like this feature. I did not. I prefer my factory Hurst.

Pro 5.0 - aftermarket shifter.. many people swear by it.. I tried on in a friends car. it is good.. I would recommend it.

B&M - I dont know many that have this shifter.

Re: pro 5.0 shifter questions

Let me see...I have tried the Kirban Kwik Shifter (you old timers remember those? MTI sold those YEARS ago) I have tried the Hurst (the first generation which I REALLY liked) the PRo 5.0 (which I have in my SS currently) and the Factory Hurst and then later the factory hurst with Lous Short stick...which then brings me to the B&M Shifter that wasn't mentioned....

I really like my Pro 5.0 and the B&M Shifter are REALLY close and both are EXCELLENT choices
The Hurst Competition model is my third choice
Followed by the Kirban....

I think the B&M Shifter has a heavier feel, which I prefer, over the Pro 5.0.

I wish you luck, you can't go wrong with any of the choices mentioned....

By the way...I put a Hurst in my 95 Z28 when it was only 5 days old.
