Pro 5.0 or B&M Ripper

Well........I can't choose between the two I heard the B&M is quieter than the 5.0, which is one of my concerns. But I haven't heard anything about the 2-3 shift for the B&M Is it easy? I heard the 5.0 makes it really easy. I'm doing street driving, probably will never go to the strip. Also the B&M is is a little cheaper

BTW, I have a 99 Z28

One more thing, the B&M says it is adjustable. Does it have to be precisely adjusted because I have no idea how to do such a thing.

Thanks

Hi, I can't speak for the 5.0 but I loved the B&M in my 6spd Z! Big improvement over the stock unit but took some getting used to at first. I'd wouldn't have a 6spd without one!

I'm in need of opinions too. I can get a B & M Ripper for $159 shipped, or a Pro 5.0 for $179 plus shipping. Is the 5.0 shorter? What should I get??

If you're more into racing then go with the Pro 5.0, you'll rarely miss a gear with it. If you just want a shifter that's nicer and feels better (a lot better) than the stock unit, go with the B&M. That's just kinda how I would sum it up.

I don't think the Pro 5.0 is much, if any shorter than the B&M but the nice thing about it is that you can replace the handle with a shorter one (like a LSS) or you can cut an inch or so off of the "stock" Pro 5.0 handle, which is what I did and I love it, it's perfect IMO.

Everyone says these shifters are louder than the stock. How are they louder? Do they just vibrate more?

And also, how you you "adjust" the B&M Ripper? It says its adjustable and I'm not quite sure how to do it? Is is hard?

Well i have driven both, and i personaly liked the B&M, nice shift from 2 to 3. And when they say adjusable, they come with these washers that fit in the grooves of the shifter base that allow you to "fine tune" the shifter if needed. I had no need to adjust mine so i just used the "stock washers" that set it in like the stock shifter was so, i dont know why you'd need to adjust it. But i loved it, it shortens throw but almost half, but then the next day i total'd my Z. And now have a 99 SS with the Hurst short throw, with a Lou's short stick, and its a pretty tight shift i love it.

The only thing that's adjustable is the stops...and the Pro 5.0 has adjustable stops too. They are just there to prevent over-travel if you want to "use" them. IOW, you can make the travel between gears a little shorter by moving the stops in (towards the shifter). If you move them too far in though, it won't go into gear, or you might move them just a little too far and it'll go in but it'll pop out of gear after a few seconds (or longer)...you get the idea.

Yes, the Pro 5.0 is "louder" than stock...noisier would be a better word. It just makes a little noise (no big deal), compared to the stock one which doesn't really make any noise.

Edit: Oh yeah, 98 white is right. The B&M is kinda adjustable in that you can move it (using the washers) a little forward, a little back or use the stock location. I forgot about that...I used the stock location, on my '96 (had the B&M). The Pro 5.0 is not "adjustable" in this way.

My vote goes for the pro 5.0! I have a B&M, and I think it sucks. I had one on another car, and loved it. The one for the f body dont even compare though. I'm gonna sell it and get the 5.0. From what Ive heard, the through is much shorter. IMO, the B&M still has a long through, and the 2-3 shift still sucks. Im gonna put it in the for sale sectoin when I get money for the new shifter. How's that for a testamonial.

Well this didn't help at all. I'll guess I will go for the cheaper one, the B&M Ripper.
