I love the Pro 5.0 although I was somewhat disappointed initially by the road noise you get after installing. But I've gotten used to it and don't think I'd trade it for any other shifter out there.

i had the 5.0 and was disapointed a lot.....disgusted by it.....with all that is said about it i think it blows......rattles, comes, loose, and doesnt shift as smooth as the bm ripper

i have the ripper now and love it

GO WITH THE BM RIPPER

I had a Pro 5.0 and it was fine. It tightened up the shifting some, which I suppose is appealing, but I never really had any problems with the stock shifter, and I've never been able to understand why people can't stand it. Never had any problems with the 5.0 like stik6shift98 describes. Maybe he had a defective unit? The one I got was very solid. Never rattled or came loose.

One thing I didn't like was the amount of drivetrain noise that came through the Pro 5.0 into the cabin. That's personal preference, though. Either one, the 5.0 or the Ripper, will make you happy. They're both quality pieces.

I went from the stock shifter to the Hurst BP and now run the new style Ripper. The new style has some adjustment on the base plate and a curved handle.

I like the curved handle because of the shifter ball placement. I would have a hard time reaching 5th and Reverse while strapped in my seat with a 5pt. I would imagine it depends a lot on how tall you are, though.

Shifter ball ... I had a hard, smooth, round ball on my car and a couple of times my hand slipped off. I found a leather Hurst shifter ball. It fits a hand really nice.

Shifting ... I read somewhere about shifting technique. I recall it was all about thumb placement.

When shifting between 1st and 2nd, the thumb should be draped across the top of the shifter ball pointing towards the front of the car.

When shifting between 2nd and 3rd, the thumb should be wrapped around the side of the ball, pointing torwards the front of the car.

When shifting between 3rd and 4th, the thumb should be along the shifter shank, pointing straight down.

These techniques work for either upshifting or downshifting.

It took me some time to get used to this, but it's second nature now, I guess ... kinda like muscle memory.

This is more info than you asked for, but take it for what it's worth ... JMHO

Any others care to give me some info about why they like or dislike one of these two shifters before I decide to order one thursday??

Thanks again

I installed the B & M Ripper about a month ago. It is kind of noisy when the windows are up, but its well worth it. Much smoother shifting and no missed shifts so far. But there is quite a bit of noise coming thru the shifter, so i cant imagine having the Pro 5.0 since people say that makes more noise.

My B&M Ripper went in a couple of months ago. It's great. Much better than my stock Hurst. Don't know about the Pro 5.0 though.

I still have the stock Hurst M6 on my car but over the summer I will be puting on a Pro 5.0 with LSS. Im not intimidated by the road noise because my car is so loud anyway. Also, Ive heard if the install is done right then the problems with the shifter coming loose, etc. don't happen. Good luck with your choice.

I have the B&M & I'm very happy with it. A lot better shifter than the stock Hurst I had.

I got the 5.0 about a month ago. Took me about 40 minutes or so to install. I saw one difference between the two shifters in that the 5.0 has bolts which are placed to take the force of your shifting. I didn’t see these bolts on the ripper however (did I miss them?).

Anyway, my first few drives around I thought I must have installed it wrong because it felt so different, but I believe I have gotten use to it. I put thread locker on all the bolts, so I shouldn’t have to tighten anything again. The thread locker works better than I thought. I had to take off a bolt that I put on, it was a SOB.

Anyway, let me get to the point. I'm happy with the 5.0, but looking back I would have liked to of tried the ripper before I purchased anything.

PS, when passengers ask you why your shifter is so noisy, tell them it’s because it’s a high performance race car ... they get impressed.

Those are adjustable stops so you don't destroy your gears/synchro's... though I don't know if the T56 has internal stops. My Tremec 3550 has internal stops, and my shifter has adjustable stops, but they kept backing out, so I finally took the stops out and it seems to go into gear a lot better... so I don't know.
