power gain... but a backfire???
ok for the track last sat. i dropped the y-pipe on my 02 ws6 so exhaust was running thru only manifolds and cats... i experianced a consistant drop in my et of .2 - .3 but when it redlined first gear and went to shift, my car made two louds bangs (backfires, it sounded like) and experianced an immediate very short lived loss of power for that moment....
ummm? should i not do that anymore? what about the guys running open headers?
i'd really like to keep those 10th's off at the track... but i also don't wanna hurt anything
thanks for any advice!

small pops are comon on freeflowing exhaust.
you could just be sucking a bit more air into the pipes, igniting some unburnt gas.
as for the power loss...maybe you tripped a couple degrees of knock retard.
